The International Committee of the Red Cross – ICRC- (www.icrc.org) is an independent humanitarian organisation, neutral and impartial. Yola Office is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the vacancy below.

Head of Office – Yola (Grade B3)

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Sub Delegation – Mubi, the Head of Yola Office manages the office, its security, and operations in accordance with the strategies, objectives, programs and action plans, defined by MUB Sub-Structure

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyses the humanitarian, political, and security environment to identify humanitarian needs and prioritizes the response in the area under responsibility (AoR) in coordination with MUBI (MUB) Management.
  • Manages the sub-structure, its human, financial, and material resources in alignment with the ICRC HR and financial management procedures and policies.
  • Contributes to the elaboration of the Sub-Delegation’s strategies and objectives and ensures the implementation and follow up of related programs and activities, in coordination with the Movement, other humanitarian actors, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Oversees security management in the area under responsibility, in line with the overall security framework established by the Sub-Delegation in close coordination with MUB Management and ABJ Field Coordinator.
  • Develops, maintains, and further strengthens a broad network of interlocutors, including state authorities, security agencies, political bodies, community leaders, and other humanitarian stakeholders, as representative of the ICRC to ensure access and acceptance, maximizing opportunities to address protection concerns and their underlying causes.
  • Regularly meets with the ICRC’s established network of interlocutors to ensure ICRC acceptance and awareness of its mandate, principles, and activities in the state. Actively seeks to enlarge the network with relevant interlocutors.
  • Attends coordination meetings as an observer and represents the ICRC.
  • Actively meets with other organizations to understand their planned activities and exchange relevant information.
  • Closely monitors political, social, economic, and security developments, and shares written reports, including analysis of humanitarian needs and protection concerns, with MUB management.
  • In close cooperation with the logistics department, organizes movements between the different site in the most cost-effective manner. Ensures the smooth organization of visitors’ accommodation in YOL Office as well as their movements to other sites and the airport.
  • Actively invests in maintaining and further strengthening its relationship with the national society in its AoR.
  • Conducts security and context briefings for visitors to its AoR.
  • Ensures timely and accurate internal reporting.

Education and Experience Required

  • University degree or equivalent.
  • 4-6 years overall professional experience and 3 years of related experience.
  • Proven experience in coordination of activities and security management.
  • Experience in managing a team.

Desired profile and Skills

  • Excellent spoken and written English and Hausa.
  • Knowledge of additional local languages is desirable.
  • High computer literacy (Excel, word, and PPT).
  • Relevant humanitarian experience.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and writing skills.
