Head of MAG Europe

Based in Europe with regular travel to Brussels

Starting salary of £54,588 (€63,595) per annum plus contributory pension (if UK based)**

About the role:

Our work limits the causes and addresses the consequences of conflict and armed violence. We do this by delivering interventions across the conflict spectrum and using our influence to effect change. The newly created role of Head of MAG Europe is an opportunity to lead on the engagement and strategic development of MAG’s European presence. With a focus on representation, institutional fundraising and advocacy within the European Union, this role is critical to positioning MAG to achieve our aim of extending our influence and impact.

A key measure of success in the role will be the collaborative development and delivery of a 2 year strategy for MAG’s European engagement. Ensuring strong relationships with both external and internal stakeholders will be key, as will working closely with our programmes to ensure coordinated cross-organisational European engagement, including at the country delegation level.

Reporting to the Director of Policy and Strategic Partnerships, the role is part of the department’s senior management team, and will work in close partnership with the Head of Strategic Partnerships to ensure a consistent and coordinated approach to strategic partnerships.

About you:

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of high-level donor representation and strategic engagement, with experience of engaging with the European Union and Member States on funding and or policy and advocacy. You will have international experience in humanitarian/development/peacebuilding programming and the ability to establish yourself quickly as a credible representative for MAG.

You will be able to demonstrate strong stakeholder identification, mapping and influencing skills, with tangible results. Your knowledge of European donors and the European political market will be complemented by your knowledge of funding and policy trends in relation to conflict and development.

In addition to English, you will have fluency in one other European language (e.g. French, Spanish or Dutch). Strong communication skills is key to this role as is the ability to develop relationships across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure results. Knowledge of humanitarian disarmament programming is desirable, as is experience in senior leadership roles at programme level.

This role will involve frequent travel, sometimes at short notice, and to countries affected by conflict. Regular attendance at external events (sometimes out of hours) is also required.
