The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of two years. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Bamako, Mali.

As Head of Logistics you will be responsible for timely meeting of all program procurement needs and logistics in accordance with Welthungerhilfe (WHH) procedures and standards and in adherence to donor guidelines. Furthermore you will be responsible for efficient management of Procurement, Asset, Fleet, Warehousing, IT and the recruitment and capacity development of all staff working in the Logistics Department.

Your responsibilities

  • Lead the coordination between the logistics team and the Head of Projects and Area Managers to facilitate effective, efficient, and timely program implementation
  • Provide technical support and guidance to field offices on the development of procurement plans, and planning country and field level tenders and contracts
  • Establish and maintain a rigorous, accountable and transparent procurement system in accordance with WHH policies
  • Ensure appropriate and efficient WHH fleet management
  • Ensure asset management in accordance with WHH and donor rules and standards
  • Actively participate in national management, coordination, and project development
  • Prepare regular, timely and accurate narrative and logistical reports
  • Oversee the effective functioning of the IT system in all offices and guesthouse facilities, ensuring compliance with the WHH
  • Responsible for recruitment, induction and capacity building of logisitcs staff

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or an equivalent degree related to the position
  • More than 5 years of relevant professional experience in leadership roles, both in development and humanitarian context
  • Ability to strengthen team dynamics
  • Excellent communication and intercultural skills
  • Coordination and organisational skills, including ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to contribute to developing the capacities of the team
  • A high level of mental and physical resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe’s programme countries
  • Excellent spoken and written English and French; German would be an asset
