Sightsavers

Uniting to Combat NTDs are looking for a Head of Finance and Grants to manage our financial and grant planning.

Salary: £49,889 – £58,693

Location: UK remote – with occasional travel to meetings in Brighton, London and Haywards Heath, West Sussex when required

Contract: Two Year Fixed Term Contract – Renewable

Hours: This is a full-time role with some flexibility around hours worked and mostly home working

Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are a group of preventable and treatable diseases that affect about 1.65 billion people around the world. The World Health Organization currently recognises twenty diseases as NTDs.

Uniting to Combat NTDs is a global advocacy organisation that exists to end NTDs by mobilising resources in support of the World Health Organization’s NTD road map and the Sustainable Development Goals. We envision a world where no-one suffers from these preventable and treatable diseases. We are hosted by Sightsavers and offer a great place to work.

In February 2023, we conducted a mid-term review of our 2021-2030 strategy to assess its continued relevance in light of the substantial global challenges that have emerged since its inception. While we re-affirmed the strategy’s continued importance, we recognized the imperative of intensifying our efforts in resource mobilisation to address persistent funding gaps, the absence of dependable, long-term funding mechanisms for global NTD programs, and significant changes to the global health architecture.

Our target over the next five years is to mobilise over US$2bn towards the WHO NTD road map from a range of sources, existing and new, including from donor governments, multi-lateral development banks, affected countries, and innovative financing. Our success will be measured by the volume of funding we are able to mobilise for countries and individuals affected by NTDs.

We are looking for an experienced Head of Finance and Grants to manage the financial and grant planning, monitoring, and reporting for the Uniting Secretariat (current budget~$4M pa and multiple funders).

Key duties will include:

  • Leading overall budgeting in support of Uniting secretariat strategy
  • Managing, monitoring, and reporting on all aspects of expenditure, including keeping on top of cash flow, ensuring correct accounting within internal reporting and accounting systems
  • Leading on compliance, contracting and procurement
  • Managing grants
  • Leading on the development of financial reports and materials for financial committee meetings

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Significant experience gained within a similar role
  • Strong Excel and database management skills
  • Experience with multi-year, multi-million, multi-donor budget development for a team or organisation
  • Professional accounting qualifications
  • Financial acumen plus budget development, financial analysis and operational management skills
  • The ability to facilitate financial discussions with team members and the leadership team
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • The ability to engage effectively with individuals with diverse backgrounds and styles
