We are brave, we are ambitious, we are honest, and we are Citizen!

At Citizen we are proud to be able to give tens of thousands of people across the West Midlands one of the most important things they will ever have – a home and a foundation for their life.

Citizen is committed to ensuring our residents are safe and secure in their homes. We have recently created a new Building Safety team led by a new Director of Building Safety.

To make sure we have the right skills, knowledge and competence we have created a new role of Head of Compliance and Building Safety.

You will lead the safety of the home Compliance team to ensure that the organisation’s homes and buildings comply with regulatory and statutory requirements and that we deliver the specialist repair and maintenance services appropriately across the portfolio to maintain safety. You will be skilled in managing large scale contracts delivering safety inspections, recording outcomes and ensuring any remedial actions are dealt with efficiently and in line with agreed timescales.

In addition to the existing arrangements, a new and more extensive approach is emerging from the work following the Grenfell disaster. We need to ensure we have appropriate plans in place to meet the requirements of any new legislation and you will have the exciting opportunity to enhance our existing service to ensure we can meet the new requirements. Given the size and nature of our housing portfolio then we are already progressing our response to the new requirements and this role will ensure that we will have the appropriate services in place to meet new Building safety legislation.

About you:

Do you have experience of managing risk assessments within a residential housing environment?

We’re seeking someone who can bring their expertise of the legislative frameworks applicable to the building/construction and social housing sectors. To be successful in this role you must have the following skills and experience:

  • Relevant professional technical qualification.
  • Degree level education or equivalent through relevant training/experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and best practice associated with residential accommodation and social housing.
  • Experience of managing risk assessment and safety inspection processes and procedures across residential housing portfolios.
  • Experience, ideally within the social housing repair and maintenance sector with organisational, departmental and budgetary responsibility.

If this sounds like you, you’ll feel right at home at Citizen. As well as a generous benefits package, we enable all Citizen employees to achieve the best possible balance between work and personal life and provide opportunities for everyone to reach their full potential.

Being a citizen is a fundamental concept. It means being part of society, having a stake, having rights and responsibilities, and being respected, regardless of ethnicity, religion, sexuality, disability or anything else which is fundamental to who we are. We are passionate about driving forward the equality, diversity and inclusion agenda in our organisation and sector.
