Our Birmingham, UK Humanitarian Academy for Development (HAD) Office is actively recruiting for the position of ‘Head of Business Development’ to join its team. Serving the Humanitarian and International Development Sector and its parent Islamic Relief Worldwide – it collects, coordinates and delivers compelling HAD in action content and messaging around the globe to promote the training, and talent development services HAD offers to retain existing customers and attract new customers within the humanitarian and development sector. The Division leverages digital platforms, public relations, events and the media, all in line with HAD’s vision, mission and strategy. It is envisioned to be a hub where humanitarian and development theories and practice are studied, examined and developed.

Reporting to the Operations Director, the Head of Business Development will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for developing HAD’s business. The job holder is responsible for developing and maintaining Academy’s strategy, market position and achieve financial growth.

The job holder is required to work closely with all heads of departments, to develop new products and services and market them to potential donor agencies. The Head of BD serves as liaison to IR Family partners to decide on projects and provide them with the required services. The role will also strengthen the Academy’s relations with the wider humanitarian development community. The job holder is also responsible for establishing and managing a pool of consultants for providing services outside IR.

The successful candidate must have or be:

  • Experience in working for an international NGO
  • Confidence in delivering presentations and representing HAD to a variety of audiences including donor agencies
  • Able to adapt styles to meet the needs of different audiences
  • Experience in developing concept papers, proposals and bids and securing funds from institutional donors
  • Experience in report writing
  • Experience in working with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in developing and managing departmental and programme budgets
  • Extensive experience in managing and motivating team
  • Experience in dealing with donors
  • Significant experience in strategic planning for departments and organisations
