Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private partnership committed to saving children’s lives and protecting people’s health by increasing equitable use of vaccines in lower-income countries. KMTS is Gavi’s information technology team responsible for implementing and supporting technology that enables the Gavi Secretariat in their global mission.

THE ROLE

Although Gavi is a relatively small organisation, its global impact on the world’s poorest children is substantial. In order for such a small organisation to have such a global reach, IT is seen as a critical mission enabler, and this influential new role will play an important role in helping Gavi IT to deliver mission-enabling value to the Gavi Secretariat.

We are looking for a passionate IT leader who excels in bringing structure to complex organisations, is expert in process simplification and harmonisation, and who brings a broad set of business and IT skills. You will have experience in running budgets, data analysis and sharing, modernising workplace culture, portfolio management, knowledge management, IT marketing and communications, strategic supplier management, workforce management, and excellent team management skills.

Your key objectives will be around ensuring that Gavi’s information and technology team (“KMTS”) operates in an efficient and transparent manner, focusing on building up excellence in planning and operational models which support the Chief Technology and Knowledge Officer’s (CTKO) strategy. You will own IT governance, compliance and the administration of the KMTS department including financial management, budgeting, resourcing and reporting,

The small team who reports to you and will support you have varied roles, including process excellence, enterprise architecture, project and change management. In turn, you will be working within a small group of leaders also reporting to the CTKO, and the capacity to build quality relationships, trust and effective teamwork is a must.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Work strategically across KMTS to develop consistency and excellence in the structuring components of the operations including principles, process, and systems. • Partner with the CTKO and the KMTS leadership to help drive agreed strategy; • Manage a team of permanent and consultant staff to effectively achieve the objectives of the position; • Oversees the development and maintenance of KMTS policies, procedures, methodologies, and governance — as well as performance management frameworks and metrics — to ensure the KMTS organisation delivers value to the enterprise; • Defines and implements the KMTS supplier strategy with responsibility for developing and managing KMTS strategic vendor and partnership relationships; • Leads the KMTS project management office including the management of the portfolio of demands and projects; • Defines and delivers vision and plan of technology and architecture while staying current with developments in new market trends and innovations in technology; • Drives and facilitates effective collaboration and communications between KMTS and the user and customer communities; • Is responsible for directing the preparation, review and consolidation of business plans and budgets for the KMTS organisation; • Works with the internal and external audit processes, responsible for KMTS risk evaluation and management; • Oversee KMTS workforce management, including the sourcing, training and development of staff.

QUALIFICATIONS ACADEMIC

• Bachelor’s Degree, Masters in IT or business preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE

• 15 or more years in IT in increasingly influential roles, with a minimum of five to seven years in leadership roles; • Solid experience managing cross-functional teams or projects; • Success in influencing and negotiating across hierarchical organisations, including at C-level and with difficult stakeholders to drive positive changes; • Proven experience in planning and delivering successful internal structural change.

SKILLS

• Expertise in budget planning, financial management, process excellence, IT strategy, change management, programme/project management, and workforce management; • Broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions, and strategic application to business needs, including the ability to differentiate between a relevant trend and hype; • Ability to improve operational efficiency, service delivery and information management across the IT organisation; • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport and persuade others.

• Fluent in English; • Other languages desirable, particularly French.
