Program / Department Summary

Mercy Corps safety and security department works to provide a secure and safe environment for the staff of the Organization to enable them to perform their tasks in accordance with the required specifications. It also to protect the property of the Organization, for example offices, cars, furniture and technical equipment.

General Position Summary

The Guard works to assist, provide, protect and support to the activities of Mercy Corps in all the working areas. The Guard will adhere to all MC safety rules and follow the guidelines to provide security and support as it’s required by the MC. 

Essential Job ResponsibilitiesGuard

  1. To assure the security and safety of personnel and property at the Mercy Corps guesthouse or office to which assigned by the immediate supervisor, during all of the hours of working
  2. To insure that unauthorized personnel are not permitted to enter MC building or
  3. In the event that no MC personnel are present, to ensure that the house, office and compound remain secure against theft or damage and that persons who are not authorized do not enter the compound and /or remove any
  4. In the event of security problems, to assist fully in the security of the compound, office and house for safety of property and personnel and if necessary to assist in the evacuation of personnel and property if directed by the immediate
  5. To prevent unauthorized removal of property of belongings of MC (or MC personnel) from the house, office, compound or from vehicles parked outside the

6.Where necessary and requested by MC personnel, assist in removing persons, non-violently from the

7.To ensure that during the working shift, the guard remain able to check the gate and compound fence areas to ensure that unauthorized persons enter the

8.To ensure that at all time the gates for persons and vehicles remain closed and bolted, except when allowing permitted persons or vehicles to enter the compound and that the gates are immediately closed and

9.To assist in the general operation of the house and office in such items as turning on water pump, assisting in loading and unloading vehicles, assisting in general maintenance, assisting in running the generator and maintain it etc……

10.Where international staff of MC may be required to be accompanied in the street or to other location, or to border, the guard shall accompany and assist the international staff for security reasons – though they shall ensure that the compound is securely locked and where possible alternative staff are person and instructed to secure the compound, house and

11.Provide advice to international staff on local costs, local practices, courtesies, customs and regulatory

12.Strictly follow the guard duty schedule each

13.Understand that security staff is the most integral part of MC operations in Iraq thereby immediate termination while found asleep during the duty

14.Perform other work related duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably requested by the head of

15.To at all times respect and implement the principles, directions and security requirements of

16.Represent Mercy Corps in a professional

Security
  • Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country
  • Proactively ensure that team members operate in a secure environment and are aware of policies.

Reports Directly to: SSO in Baghdad office. Works Directly with: SSO/SSSO/Operations and Programs.


Qualifications & Preferred Skills

 

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience working with NGO organizations preferred.
  • Ability to work as a part of team.
  • Ability to work with people from different backgrounds and nationalities.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must respect and adhere to all safety and security procedures.
  • Good working Knowledge of English and fluency in all local languages is required.
  • Knowledge of routes, duty stations, projects areas, the NGO and diplomatic community is required.
