Islamic Relief Worldwide, Somalia Program has been operating in Somalia since 2006 and has responded to conflict and drought-affected people through the provision of life-saving assistance. through our projects, IR has continuously been providing safe drinking water, improving hygienic sanitation facilities, increasing hygiene awareness, particularly among those living in IDP camps; empowering the urban poor and distressed working children, engaging in conflict management and mitigation, and strengthening community cohesiveness and co-existence.

Job Summary

Islamic Relief Somalia currently seeking to hire a qualified professional Graphics Designer & Media and Communications Assistant who will work closely with the media team, video producers, and other key stakeholders to brainstorm and create high-quality video content and overall publications of the organization that reflect branding priorities.

Scope of this Role:

  • This post holder promotes the public image of Islamic Relief Somalia by providing animated visuals and graphics for videos and multimedia projects, enhancing visual storytelling and engagement to all other internal and external stakeholders including IRW partners and donors.
  • The media and communications assistant will play a crucial role in effective and timely documentation and capturing of all projects. The assistant will report to the Communications & Information Coordinator with a close working relationship with the Programmes Managers, Portfolio Manager, Programme Coordinators, Logistics, Finance, Admin, HR, and other team members. The assistant will ensure the highest level of data integrity and capturing of high-quality media materials.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Creating visually stunning motion graphics and animations for various digital media platforms.
  • Utilizing video software, such as Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Cinema 4D, to design and execute captivating motion graphic projects
  • Incorporating typography, visual effects, and sound design to enhance the overall impact and engagement of motion graphic content
  • Adapting and optimizing motion graphics for different screen sizes and resolutions to ensure seamless playback on various devices
  • Prepare quality media material based on project activities to capture photos, video B-ROLLs, stories, etc.
  • Collect, archive, and share all project media materials with the Communications & Information Coordinator on a monthly basis promptly.
  • Edit and do the subtitles of interviews
  • Provide administrative support to programs and internal teams
  • Help implement communications strategies
  • Draft and edit communications copy (e.g., press releases, publications, social media posts)
  • Assist in maintaining web content and executing social media strategies
  • Update the website, Facebook and the Twitter, databases, and media lists
  • Track projects and media exposure
  • Facilitate effective internal communications
  • Maintain calendars and appointments
  • To prepare annual report designs
  • Demonstrating a keen eye for aesthetics and attention to detail, ensuring high-quality motion graphic deliverables that meet donorspartners requirements and exceed expectations
  • Contributing to the creative process by bringing innovative ideas and creative solutions to the table, contributing to the overall success of the design team.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously, adhering to project timelines, and delivering projects on time and within budget
  • Collaborating with clients and stakeholders to understand project goals, gather feedback, and incorporate revisions to achieve the desired creative vision.
  • Collaborating with the creative team, including graphic designers, video editors, and content creators, to conceptualize and storyboard motion graphic projects that align with brand guidelines and project objectives.
  • Staying updated with industry trends and best practices, continuously refining skills, and exploring new techniques to push the boundaries of motion graphics design.
  • Any other related duties and assignments required by the line Manager.

Qualifications & Experience

  • University degree/Diploma in mass media, communications, Journalism, and other relevant fields from a recognized university
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with Local companies or/and International Organizations
  • Experience as a Static & Motion Graphics Designer as well as a strong portfolio of sample projects.
  • Possess strong knowledge of Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro Adobe InDesign, or similar tools.
  • Have a keen eye for design and aesthetics.
  • Well organized and can prioritize effectively.
  • Have an excellent communication skill and can clearly articulate ideas.
  • A strong team player who can collaborate effectively with different stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro, photoshop, Corel Draw, and Adobe Light room 5.
  • Video, photography, and editing skills -essential.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with an excellent command of English; good presentational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills,
  • Working for UN bodies or international NGOs in the field of Motion Graphics Designer.
  • Proficiency in English (Written and spoken) is essential
  • Good IT skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel is essential.
