Position Summary

Reporting to the Design Lead, the Graphic Designer is responsible for the design of visual materials that enhance ICAP’s global brand. As a member of the Communications team in the Strategies and Partnerships Unit, the Graphic Designer reports to the Design Lead and collaborates with the Communications team as well as other ICAP departments, to produce, manage, and enhance digital and print content and materials, including technical posters, training packages, reports, manuals, information sheets, proposals, presentations, photography, video, illustrations, graphics, event and promotional collateral, and high-priority materials for internal and external stakeholders. The Graphic Designer will also work to help maintain the graphic standards of ICAP, including font and color usage and logo guidelines and to coordinate the print production of collateral materials.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for a wide range of design and manage a portfolio of routine and project-based design assignments as directed (10%)
  • Provide administrative support for vendor management, including invoices and PO’s (10%)
  • Design and format print materials using style sheets and templates, including graphics, charts, tables, etc. (10%)
  • Participate in the development of original designs or adaptations of conceptual frameworks/data visualizations/infographics (10%)
  • Acquire, retouch, enhance, and manage photographic images (10%)
  • Provide design consultation to the Communications team, as well as New York-based and international teams, supporting them to develop, enhance, and/or modify graphic/artwork to achieve communications goals (10%)
  • Manage multiple projects of different types independently, with involvement from the Design Lead as needed (10%)
  • Independently solve problems encountered in the development, review, and production of ICAP materials. (10%)
  • Organize and catalogue graphics files (10%)
  • Maintain an orderly and efficient internal proprietary management system for collection, storage, and servicing of photos, graphics, logos, videos, templates, and other relevant materials (5%)
  • Perform other related duties as directed (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication, or related field or equivalent to education, training and/or experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ work experience or related experience in design-oriented role
  • Design website/portfolio that features examples of well-constructed and thoughtful design work, including layout, animation/video, illustrations, data visualizations/infographics, environmental graphic design/wayfinding, and brand identity
  • Thorough understanding of foundational design principles such as color, type, illustration, photography, animation, and various print and layout techniques
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and fluency with Adobe CC, especially Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects
  • Knowledge of web design and experience with web-based content management, especially WordPress
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Excellent written communication, editing, and proofreading skills and strong attention to detail
  • Highly adept and adaptive with ability to learn and apply new skills quickly
  • Highly organized with ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and work within a cross-functional, deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience within an academic medical center or university environment
  • Demonstrated general knowledge of cultural and development issues common to resource-limited settings (e.g., sub-Saharan Africa)
  • Illustration ability and experience with video animation
