Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. 1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:

Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all.

IOM began its operations in Thailand in 1975, assisting the resettlement of Indo-Chinese refugees to countries offering them permanent residence. With the Kingdom of Thailand joining IOM as a member state in 1986, the organization’s cooperation with the Royal Thai Government has expanded to cover all aspects of migration affecting the Kingdom and its neighbours, including labour migration, migration health, counter-trafficking, emergency and post-crisis, institution building, border management, security and law enforcement.

Today, IOM has a strong presence in Thailand with over 300 personnel working on more than 50 active projects in eleven locations across the country. The IOM Mission in Thailand has a main office in central Bangkok, four sub offices and six other project offices nationwide.

Under the direct supervision of the Media and Communications Officer and in close coordination with relevant programme units, the Graphic Design Consultant will contribute to the design and layout of publications, reports and information, education and communication (IEC) materials.

2. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Depending on the nature of the assignment, the Graphic Design Consultant’s tasks may include the following:
  • Based on an assignment brief, propose creative and innovative design concepts for print, web and interactive content products.
  • Design layouts for research products, such as publications, reports and briefs.
  • Transform text-based communications materials into visually appealing graphic design products, such as brochures, flyers, factsheets and infographics.
  • Conceptualize and develop digital campaign materials, such as quote cards, illustrations and animated GIFs.
  • Provide recommendations to improve design products, including on the use of photos/artwork and the presentation of data.
  • Modify, revise and edit materials as required and submit the raw files to IOM upon completion of the assignment.
  • Adhere to IOM Brand Guidelines, as well as other donor- or project-specific guidance provided by IOM.
  • Maintain close communication and liaison with relevant IOM staff regarding the accomplishment of deliverables.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

3. REQUIRED QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • University degree in the field of Design, Communications, Journalism, or a related field from and accredited academic institution

Experience:

  • At least three years of work experience in graphic design
  • Proven experience in graphic production from start to published/printed product, with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and color management
  • Previous experience working with the UN is an advantage
  • Good grasp of migration dynamics in Thailand is an advantage

Skills:

  • Strong theoretical and practical background in graphic design, including the use of design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe In-Design, Canva, or similar applications
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and Thai (oral and written) is required.
  • Burmese, Khmer and/or Lao are desirable.

In all cases, a prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the country of the duty station, or in the neighboring country located within commuting distance, and work permit, as applicable.
