Grants Compliance & Assurance Lead

£50,762 per annum plus benefits (local pay conditions apply)

London, or Johannesburg or Nairobi

The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a compliance expert and experienced team leader, to join an organisation that works to help people harness their own power to achieve a feminist, just, green transition in the 45 countries where ActionAid works.

You will lead and develop ActionAid International’s (AAI’s) growing global grants compliance Unit, part of the Institutional Funding Team. The work of this Unit is a key organizational priority, as the need and scale of institutional funding grows across the Federation. You will critically assess emerging and existing donor funding requirements and ensure that ActionAid’s policies and systems continue to meet the needs of our external stakeholders and emerging grants management & compliance trends, where appropriate. You will also lead on AA’s global cost recovery work, continuing to build federation capacity and financial stability whilst advocating for the importance of fair recovery both internally and externally. The role also has oversight of the global contracts management system (CMS) and data management & reporting, including overseeing the latest system upgrade and working with federation superusers to ensure it continues to meet and exceed their grants management requirements.

Who we’re looking for:

You should have at least five years’ experience of strategic and operational risk management, managing complex compliance in an international development context, including development of supporting policies, systems and processes. A degree in Finance, Economics, Social Sciences, Humanities or other relevant discipline or equivalent experience will be necessary. You should have experience of leading global projects, including change management and creative capacity building skills.

In addition to this, expert knowledge of global aid and institutional funding grants management & compliance trends, strong data analysis and financial competency, and up to date knowledge/experience of sector cost recovery work and best practice. You will also need to demonstrate strong understanding of systems. We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing and people management skills to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment, often remotely, and to lead and build the capacity of a team of four.

It is critical that you have experience of managing conflicting and tight deadlines; prioritising own workload and with minimal supervision.

What we offer:

ActionAid is committed to providing a welcoming, supportive workplace where we recognise a job well done, encourage close collaboration and sharing power, and where safeguarding standards and feminist leadership are exemplified everywhere. At ActionAid, you can look forward to a fair compensation package and a flexible working environment, including

· A workplace that embraces intersectional feminist principles

· Generous maternity, paternity and adoption pay
