Grants and Program Coordinator (m/f/x) in Kabul, Afghanistan

Caritas Germany, the worldwide relief organization of the German Caritas Association, ensures survival in natural disasters and crisis areas. Every year, it implements over 680 projects worldwide, including humanitarian aid, disaster relief and support for vulnerable groups. Caritas Germany has been active in Afghanistan since 1984 and has operated an office in Kabul since 2001 with around 25 employees and 10 projects. Despite the changed framework conditions from August 2021, the aid organization continues to provide humanitarian aid in Afghanistan. The office focuses on providing advice, supporting partner organizations and coordinating functions.

Your Tasks

• You coordinate Caritas Germany’s grants and projects in Afghanistan.
• You will support the national programme team in identifying needs for humanitarian aid and development cooperation measures and in reviewing project proposals from local partner organizations.
• You will identify new funding opportunities and support the team in the preparation of funding applications to public funding bodies such as the BMZ, the Federal Foreign Office, the United Nations (UN-OCHA), the EU or ECHO.
• You will update, maintain and keep track of guidelines and procedures for funding in the projects.
• You will support the finance team in the administration of funds, audits and the preparation of funding applications.
• You will ensure high quality project implementation and reporting (PMC) and support national staff in the implementation of M&E measures.
• You will be responsible for the development and implementation of quality management, including the corresponding strengthening of processes.
• You will support the office management in Afghanistan with representation tasks and day-to-day management tasks and stand in for them in case of absence or illness.

Your Profile

• You have a relevant university degree (e.g. social sciences, regional sciences, economics, rural development) and/or have relevant work experience in the field of humanitarian aid.
• You use your communication and advisory skills in a culturally sensitive manner and already have some experience in supporting local partner organizations.
• You have experience in dealing with donors and operational partners as well as working in a consortium.
• You have already worked in Afghanistan, in the region or in a comparable environment and are mentally resilient.
• You are experienced in the management of public funds and are familiar with application processes, including the preparation of logframes and reporting to public donors (e.g. AA, BMZ, ECHO, EU, UN).
• You preferably have experience and knowledge in the areas of agriculture, food security, shelter and/or WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene).
• You are able to communicate fluently in English and ideally in German. Knowledge of the local language Dari is an advantage.
• You identify with the goals and content of Caritas Germany or are actively willing to learn about them and make them your own.
• You are an EU citizen or Swiss national.
