About the Laos programme:

Laos has the unenviable title of being the most bombed country in the world per capita. For nearly a decade, Laos was subjected to heavy US bombing as part of the wider war in Indochina. US bombing records show that at least two million metric tonnes of ordnance was dropped between 1964 and 1973.

Working across Xieng Khouang and Khammouane provinces since 1994, MAG has directly helped more than 1,070,000 people to live safer lives, free from danger and fear. Another 2.6 million men, women and children have benefitted indirectly. Our teams have cleared more than 88,000,000 square metres of land in Laos, removing and destroying more than 295,000 items of UXO, including more than 163,000 cluster sub munitions. In addition, MAG has given more than 3,400 risk education sessions to around 128,000 people, helping them to stay safe until land is cleared.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team in MAG’s Laos programme. Under the direction of the Country Director, the Grants and Communications Manager will be responsible for developing effective relationships and networks with stakeholders including donors, development actors, UN Agencies, NGOs and UXO sector stakeholders and also be responsible for external programme communications including visibility and the management of the three Visitor Information Centres. You will be responsible for overall grant management; including writing proposals, reports, case studies and information management and will lead on the development and implementation of cross-cutting and regional projects, in thematic areas such as gender, housing, land & property, and the environment. A key aspect to this role will also be to provide on-the-job training and capacity development support to the Grants Officer.

About you:

The successful candidate will have demonstrable senior management experience overseas, preferably in international aid and development with a humanitarian agency in a developing country and experience of developing and supporting projects including implementation, management, monitoring and evaluation and contract compliance. You will have proven expertise in the development of new business, including proposal development, networking and contract negotiations, and experience of having developed successful relationships and negotiated with donors, government bodies, other NGOs and local partners. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels internally and externally will be key to the role. Experience of producing high quality donor reports and proposals is also a requirement. As the post holder will be responsible for providing on the job training and capacity building to the Grants Officer previous experience of day-to-day mentoring and formal capacity development of junior staff members will be essential for this role.
