Graduate Pavement Materials Engineering Intern

Heritage Research Group (HRG) is seeking a qualified student pursuing a graduate degree in Civil, Mechanical or Material Science Engineering to fill the position of Pavement Materials Engineering Intern for the Summer of 2023. This hands-on position in our construction materials laboratory will work with engineers, scientists, and technicians on research topics related to hot mix asphalt characterization and performance testing.

Timeline: Application closes on Thursday, November 3rd or until filled Paid Summer Internship: May 15th – August 4th

  • Intern pay is non-negotiable and is calculated based on current academic class standing $17/hour (Freshman) – $20/hour (Senior), etc.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with a growing team of engineers, scientists, and technicians in a dynamic laboratory setting
  • Produce, analyze, and evaluate asphalt mixtures following standard lab procedures
  • Gain exposure to roadway construction projects with an emphasis on construction materials, specifically asphalt pavements
  • Manage and present a research project with a focus on the evaluation of asphalt mixtures using balance mix design concepts, under the supervision of the asphalt mix design

Requirements

  • Ability to work safely in a lab setting while following HRG’s safety requirements
  • Quick learner with ability to work independently and within various teams
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail, timely, and professional work habits
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Education/Experience Requirements

  • College Senior or actively pursuing a graduate degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Material Science Engineering.
  • Experience in material testing, construction, or asphalt-related research
