GMC internship programme – July 2022

General Medical Council

The GMC will be running a four-week Internship Programme over the summer with a start date of 4 July 2022. Why not join us to see what is like to have a career in one of the largest healthcare regulators within the UK?

The General Medical Council (GMC) regulates one of the most diverse professions in the UK. We help to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards and take action when they are not met.

Our organisation is built on fairness and trust – the trust of patients and the medical profession. We provide an inclusive working environment where everyone is valued and welcome new perspective and ideas that you may bring. As it’s important that we can relate to the people we serve, we are looking to attract a wider pool of talented, skilled and experienced people from different backgrounds to ensure we have a better understanding of the needs of our diverse registrants and the diversity of the communities across the UK

We welcome applications from all individuals and particularly from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) background, socially or economically disadvantaged background or have a disability as members of these groups are currently under-represented in GMC. All appointments will be based on merit.

You could be in your final two years at university in any degree subject (or equivalent) and have a real interest in developing your employability skills or understanding what it’s like to work at a healthcare regulator. We just want to see that you have a real interest and enthusiasm to make a difference, can work in a team and with people at varying levels of ability and responsibility. Our aim is to find people with potential like you, helping you to grow and thrive and build a successful and rewarding career.

There will be ten opportunities available across the GMC. Most of our intern roles will be based in either our Manchester or London office and will be supported with some homeworking. To find out more please find details attached to the job vacancy.

Finally, you can expect to be paid the London (£11.05 an hour) or UK (£9.90) Real Living Wage for your hours worked, and flexible working opportunities are available. You’ll find a relaxed and friendly working environment. Your internship will be a great way to prepare for a place on one of our graduate programmes or other roles in future.

The deadline for applications is 28 March 2022.

We will be running two virtual sessions on Wednesday 16 March at 10am and 4pm for you to find out more about the GMC and the intern roles. This will also provide you with an opportunity to ask any questions. Please register your interest

We value diversity and have made a public commitment to processes and procedures that are fair, objective, transparent and free from discrimination. We’re a charity registered in England and Wales (1089278) and Scotland (SC037750)
