The Role:

WorldFish has an exciting opportunity for a senior research professional to be the Global Lead – Social and Economic Inclusion impact areaand provide thought leadership to inspire delivery of poverty reduction and gender equality and youth and social inclusion in relation to aquatic food systems. The research lead will generate compelling scientific evidence that persuades critical decision-makers and market actors—at all levels—to implement inclusive policies and investments in aquatic food systems for shared prosperity and well-being through three priority actions:

  1. Leave no one behind with an inclusive and people-centered blue economy;
  2. Improve the viability, accessibility and affordability of aquatic foods for all; and
  3. Support sustainable livelihoods, decent work and well-being.

The Global Lead – Social and Economic Inclusion will shape the research agenda in the social and economic inclusion impact area and lead WorldFish, partners and stakeholders towards our 2030 goals. We’re looking for a researcher with the vision, ability, and drive to deliver impact by bringing out the best in people in diverse, intercultural teams. We’re seeking someone who inspires their colleagues to be the best version of themselves, someone who is respected by donors, and is committed to deliver to our stakeholders.

The Person

The successful candidate will have:

  • A PhD and demonstrate evidence of commitment to systems approaches in their field of expertise in relation to aquatic food systems;
  • Expertise and a track record of leading research, policy engagement, and resource mobilization in **Political economy/ecology (**e.g., in relation tonatural resource governance, value chains, decent work) and/or Gender, Entrepreneurship, Inclusive Finance, Social Protection;
  • Commitment to seeing research create impact for resilient aquatic food systems, and have demonstrated experience of working in the global south, including field experience and a broad network of institutional partnerships;
  • Ability to communicate vision with clarity, inspiring colleagues, donors, stakeholders to work with WorldFish towards our 2030 goals, and have a track record to back this up;
  • Demonstrated the ability to work across disciplines and sectors.

This is a globally recruited position with a competitive salary commensurate with experience, an attractive retirement plan, comprehensive international insurance coverage. The successful international candidates may also be eligible for additional allowances, which include housing, education, shipping assistance, and annual home leave travel for employee and eligible dependents. The duration of the contract will initially be for a three-year period with possibility for extension.

Location: It’s preferable that this position is based in Penang, Malaysia, however, other WorldFish locations will be considered. This position will involve international travel.
