Role & Responsibilities

We are seeking a strong IT Leader who can help to drive the technical aspects of a number of Digital Transformation projects across Medair globally. The selected candidate will bring people management skills, will have a change management mindset, and will also hold strong solutions architect skills to help to develop and implement a systems architecture that will meet Medair’s needs. The role will be required to gain an understanding of Medair’s requirements and functional specifications, assess the current software systems in place in order to identify areas in need of improvement, and oversee the project and development teams. The role will also be able to regularly update Medair on any developments in ongoing projects.

Working closely with the IT Director, the Digital Transformation Manager will form a key part of the Global ITS leadership team, collaborating to set strategy for the technology roadmap and designing solutions architecture for the organisation. The role will provide leadership for a group of geographically disbursed project teams responsible for the implementation of new Digital Transformation Projects including the implementation of a new ERP and the development of a new suite of beneficiary management tools.

Project Overview

Medair’s Global Support Office (GSO) provides operational guidance for country programs, along with both technical and compassionate support for our relief workers. Within our headquarters and affiliate offices, we are also responsible for promoting the work of Medair to the world, to raise and manage the funds needed to run our life-saving and sustaining programs, and to recruit international and GSO staff.

Global ITS provides Medair with centralised governance, strategy, direction, innovation and support in the use of the information technologies that amplify the people to people strategy. Global ITS provides a centralised approach to ensure cost efficiency and integration, including country programs in the strategic design of systems, & delivers services locally to ensure that the day-to-day needs of our GSO & country program colleagues are met.

Workplace & Working Conditions

This is a Global ITS Team position based in Switzerland, with up to 12 weeks of travel to Medair locations in a year. Swiss or eligible EU citizens, or those with a valid work permit for Switzerland, can apply. Applications with previous Medair experience would be considered to work from their home location.

Key Activity Areas

ITS Strategy

  • Development of a roadmap to upgrade and standardise the applications infrastructure across GSO and all country programs. Development of the overall Systems Architecture, ensuring coherence and consistency of the data model across all the solutions.

Team Leadership

  • Lead multiple project teams and individuals by providing guidance and timely feedback, and lead by example to demonstrate professionalism and accountability.
  • Develop training and knowledge transfer plans so that members of the team can continue to grow in their roles and ensure proper coverage in case of staff absence or departure.

Solutions Architecture

  • Design of information systems to meet the company’s needs. Assess the systems architecture currently in place and working with technical staff to recommend solutions to improve it. Resolve technical problems as they arise.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to development teams.
  • Continually research current and emerging technologies and proposing changes where needed.
  • Informing various stakeholders about any problems with the current technical solutions being implemented.
  • Assessing the business impact that certain technical choices have.
  • Providing updates to stakeholders on product development processes, costs, and budgets.

Innovation/changes

  • The holder of this position is required to keep an overview on new applications available and propose changes to improve the toolkit and organisational applications skillset.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Informatics, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written). Ability to work in French desirable.

Experience

  • Experience with implementation of major ERPs – Unit 4 desirable.
  • Project Management Certification in PRINCE2, PMP or other desirable.
  • 7+ IT Project Management experience. 7+ years’ experience in applications development, information management, business intelligence or other related field.
  • Proven experience in people management (3+ years).
  • Proven experience in engineering and software architecture design. Experience in database management and mobile technologies.
  • Experience operating in hybrid environments including in-house and outsourced operations and use of cloud-based services. Vendor Management. Experience in database administration.
  • Experience in setting up and supporting infrastructure in international NGOs operating in a variety of contexts – desirable. Experience working in the field in the Humanitarian Sector – Medair experience preferred.
  • Experience working with remote geographically disbursed teams preferred.
  • Strong planning and analytical skills. In-depth understanding of coding languages (Java, JavaScript).
  • Experience with Cloud, SaaS and hybrid technologies.
  • Sound knowledge of various operating systems and databases.
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement and project delivery skills.
  • Solid understanding & experience with virtualization, operating systems, area networking, response & recovery, data protection and retention, and other information management disciplines to support a global organization.
  • Advanced leadership and project management skills. Experience building a high-performance team.
