We are currently recruiting a Global Investigations Director to join our Ethics & Compliance team, to be based in any country where Relief International operates. This is a remote position, where the successful candidate will work closely with Country Incident Management Teams.

Note you must have the right to work in your remote home-based location and that national terms and conditions apply.

About the opportunity

You will ensure that ethics and compliance allegations and incidents that arise in our organization are handled with professionalism and integrity.

Your role will be to lead, guide and coordinate investigation activity across RI’s operations. This will be a highly-visible role that may interface with regional and country leadership teams, local incident management teams, global support office functions (such as legal, finance, security and human resources), major donors, and law enforcement officials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the assignment, prioritization, monitoring and evaluation of investigative work worldwide.
  • Undertake and lead investigations on behalf of the Global Support Office.
  • Lead on revising investigative tools and templates based on best practices.
  • Develop and deliver investigation training to field investigators.
  • Conduct analyses to determine trends and learnings from investigative activity, and develop recommendations for corrective actions and improvements to RI’s internal controls and practices.

About you

You will bring the following experience and skills.

  • Progressive experience in conducting and/or overseeing investigations of alleged misconduct in an international environment, including in international NGOs, and/or high risk and fragile settings
  • Undergraduate or first-level degree in accounting, law, business, criminal justice, international relations, or a related discipline is required.
  • A juris doctorate, master’s degree, or other postgraduate qualification in international development/relations, human resources, criminal justice or similar subject matter is preferred. Career experience in these areas will also be considered in place of an advanced educational degree.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, judgment, and ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated fluency with a variety of topical matters that may be the subject of investigations, including fraud, corruption, procurement integrity, trade sanctions, safeguarding, human trafficking, harassment/discrimination, and labor standards.
  • Willingness to travel, sometimes at short notice, on occasion
