About the Team

The Talent Team helps find, welcome, and retain amazing people across the Alight family of organization (Alight, Eastern Congo Initiative, Questcope, ORAM, and Kuja Kuja). Partnering and collaborating with HR Leads worldwide, we guide, support, and advocate for our 2,500+ people along the employment and volunteer journey at Alight. The primary vehicles through which we do this are seeking/hiring, onboarding, learning & growth, career pathing & succession planning, and performance management. We stay focused on creating value for our customer by listening, staying nimble, and bringing important conversational questions forward that champion Alight’s people, culture, and values. We collaborate across an integrated team within the Office of the People including benefits, compensation, & compliance and engagement & wellness.

About the Role

Working closely with the Office of the People team and assigned Enterprises and Enterprise HR Leads you will provide full complement of strategic People and HR support, creating and aligning strategies to ensure successful achievement of organizational goals and objectives. You think big-picture and systems level change and also roll up your sleeves and dig into the day-to-day details that get us there. You’ll be guided by and receive support from the Director, Talent & Seeking and collaborate with the wider Office of the People team. Simply put, your purpose is to provide reliable and consistent support to your portfolio countries and programs that advances the organization’s ambitious people management, talent development and retention efforts.

⁻ You’re acting as a guide, ally, and solution-finder with your People and HR colleagues, you are accessible and proactive in your relationships with HR Leads in your portfolio.

⁻ You’re helping to create oneness, equity, and transparency in our People processes, tools and policies across the global organization, and facilitating learning across HR and all teams on the same.

⁻ You’re successfully supporting in seeking and finding people to join Alight, and supporting their onboarding, development, retention and growth and experience within the organization.

⁻ You’re consistently referring to Alight’s beliefs, promises and values as you make decisions, provide guidance and design the employee journey and experience at Alight, including during the more difficult moments in that journey (i.e., exits, conflict resolution, performance management, safeguarding, PSEAH).

Key Responsibilities

You will be assigned a portfolio of 3-5 countries/programs, and working collaboratively with the respective HR lead for each country or enterprise, including coordination with the Global Office of the People team, you will be responsible to support and actively contribute toward the following:

Workforce planning and Talent Management 10%

– Participate in identification of staffing needs for all positions.

– Support and contribute during country specific budget discussions on HR staffing requirements

– Inform and contribute to Talent Management strategy globally.

– Ensure succession planning engagements.

– Provide support with Staff offboarding and dignified exits

Recruitment & Orientation 25%

– Provide effective support in recruitment processes for assigned countries

– Engage and support country HR staff on both global and local recruiting strategies as hiring needs are identified within assigned countries.

– Ensure onboarding, orientation and tone-setting for new employees and consultants

– Lead in recruitment process for new country office start-up phase, provide direct support (reviewing resumes, interviewing local candidates).

Compensation, Compliance and Benefits 15%

– Provide guidance to HR leads for assigned Countries’ Compensation, Compliance & Benefits (insurance, labor law, policies, pensions, PAYE)

– Ensure regular and up to date salary survey data is available per country

Safeguarding, PSEAH, Engagement, and Belonging 20%

– Coach, advise and support assigned Alight & affiliate HR leads on new as well as refresher trainings and sessions.

– Support assigned countries in investigations, assessments, reviews and reporting mechanisms.

– Serve in interim HR assignments for the assigned country programs as needed

– Provide leadership in staff engagement, staff care, and community building for the portfolio, in close collaboration with the global Engagement & Wellness team.

– Support DEI/Belonging interventions and activities for assigned portfolio

Policies, Procedures, Compliance 10%

– Support assigned enterprises with their respective People/HR policy, standards, and practices while ensuring compliance.

– Support in receiving, reviewing, and consolidating required periodic reports and documentation: surveys, retention/turnover trends, hiring metrics/recruitment, etc. reports

– Facilitate global compilation of Employee Statistics – Quarterly, monthly, and as may be requested.

– Follow up on and ensure Covid and any pandemic tracking and running monthly reports as required.

Learning and Development 20%

– Ensure HR leads provide training on tools and resources to support and strengthen local HR operations

– Help HR teams to implement and adopt global technology solutions; this may include but not be limited to global HR SharePoint site, HRIS, ATS, Serenic HR, etc.

– Contribute to department learning and sharing with country HR leads and global team, creating a spirit of a borderless HR culture.

– Collaborate on co-designing or making accessible meaningful learning & growth offerings that are inclusive for all teammates (front line staff, managers, STM, etc.).

– Support performance systems including ad hoc performance support and training interventions as needed

Other duties as assigned

Travel:

As required in support to assigned countries/enterprises. Expect 20-25% of time, though may fluctuate depending on needs.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Prefer at least eight years of relevant experience working in the Global HR/People field with expertise in the full cadre of HR with INGO, public institutions.
  • Prefer experience and familiarity with East Africa region labor and HR standards.
  • Demonstrated experience and comfort utilizing online content and project management systems.
  • Incredibly organized, takes responsibility for follow-up and follow-through
  • Proactive, curious, and self-motivated
  • Strong interpersonal skills and highly collaborative
  • Experience in hybrid and distributed work environments spanning global time zones; demonstrates excellent communication skills, time management, and adaptability.
  • Excellent listener; able to formulate strategic questions.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and be flexible.
  • Proven experience working within diverse groups and communities.
