We are looking for a Global Head of Crop Protection Policy and Advocacy (m/f/d) based in our Headquarter in Basel, Switzerland to secure Syngenta Crop Protection license to operate through shaping a political and regulatory environment supportive of Syngenta Crop Protection business model. Reporting to the Group Global Head of Public Affairs, the individual will be responsible for 2 key areas: public policy development for Crop Protection as well as senior policy support for the Head of Business Sustainability.

This newly created role with exciting high-impact is well suited to individuals looking to make a difference in an organization at the forefront of the future of agriculture, with frequent exposure to C-suite and other influential decision makers and organizations.

Accountabilities

  • Identify key policy issues and stakeholder concerns impacting Syngenta Crop Protection
  • Advise on key emerging risks to business and geopolitical developments
  • Develop Syngenta Crop Protection policy/positions in collaboration with internal business partners and experts, considering future company strategy and stakeholder views
  • Actively contribute to the Group global outreach strategy, including multilateral institutions; provide senior support and briefing to leaders on outreach, with particular focus on support for the Head of Business Sustainability
  • Coordinate and prepare positions and participate as needed in global associations and industry groups (e.g., CLI, WBCSD, WEF). Putting our issues on the agenda and align association engagement in various committees
  • Prepare policy responses to external enquiries and challenges, collaborating with communications and Group Public Affairs on positioning Syngenta Crop Protection in key societal dialogues
  • Other duties as may be required for the successful delivery of public affairs outcomes, commensurate with the level of the post (e.g., deputizing for the Global Head of Public Affairs and direct support for senior executive team members)

Requirements

Qualifications

  • At least 8 years of in-depth and hands on experience in Government Affairs, Corporate Affairs or External Relations
  • Extensive understanding of the global political and governmental environment, and impact on an international business
  • Solid experience as a company spokesperson on critical issues or handling government bodies
  • Demonstrated issues and crisis management capability with capacity to manage multiple and diverse internal and external relationships in a complex environment
  • High degree of business acumen to identify business relevant external policy areas: experience in multilateral institutions, agribusiness, commodity, FMCG or biotechnology field would be advantageous
  • Proactive, self-motivating, ability to manage a large workload, work calmly and quickly under pressure and respond to very short deadlines
  • Flexibility, tenacity, and a can-do approach to teamwork
  • Unquestionable ethics and integrity
  • Full command of the English language, written and verbal. German or French language skills would be plus
