Lonza Biologics Operations continue to experience a fast and significant growth. The Lead is accountable to effectively support the early project definition phase, which is essential to properly assess feasibility, budget estimate, and execution timing of growth projects. With this the lead will ensure sufficient and early user involvement, which is the base for future success of all growth projects. The Lead is accountable to initiate projects up to the formal approval for execution, which typically occurs after completion of the preliminary engineering study.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide “Operations” leadership for the early strategic growth investment project pipeline in Biologics from the initiation phase until the End-to-End project lead (typically the future user) is nominated and onboarded
  • Establish strong collaboration with BU heads, Sales/Commercial leads, Site Heads, and customers to ensure proper definition of the project scope and business case
  • Foster strong collaboration and partnership with both SGIE and the BU in delivering the facility design, project milestones, and CAR
  • Drive Value Engineering exercise ensuring best value for the money, while preserving all functionalities required to operate the asset effectively
  • Define a LEAN operational model and facility design, including Automation architecture and functionalities, to drive future operational efficiency
  • Assure incorporation of innovation, lessons learned from other projects and global standards, with the main goal to reduce operating costs and enhance operational efficiency
  • Ensure early growth projects follow the proper end to end framework
  • Support the site selection process for the planned facilities
  • Develop and quantify an aggressive yet realistic ramp up plan in alignment with the business case
  • Support the recruiting and onboarding of the future end to end project lead in collaboration with the respective stakeholders

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master degree in Life Science / Engineering
  • Business fluent in English
  • Certifications Lean/6 Sigma Green or Black Belt is preferred
  • Advanced no. of years of experience in operations within Biopharmaceutical industry
  • Strong operational and engineering knowledge are required to successfully meet job requirements. In particular, the individual should have a strong manufacturing background and should have been involved in several major CAPEX projects
  • Strong understanding of the business and its priorities
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and complexity
  • Ability to adjust to different customer requirements and adapt oneself to different challenges
  • Ability to distil complex business issues, evaluate and prioritize, then communicate effectively to a wide array of audiences
  • Can build broad alliances and networks to engage stakeholders and drive strategy execution, across multiple functions
  • Strategic thinker – can think beyond the obvious and apply complex judgment based on advanced analytical thought and extensive operational experience
