Legal and Compliance Division Overview

Professionals within the Legal and Compliance Division provide a wide range of services to our business units. We preserve the firm’s invaluable reputation for integrity and protect the firm from sanctions with policies and procedures that are designed to meet regulatory requirements around the world. We also strive to maintain cooperative relationships with governmental policy makers and the regulatory and self-regulatory agencies that govern the firm’s businesses.

Primary Responsibilities

The Compliance Oversight Governance team provides global support across the various Compliance Monitoring and Testing teams. This includes ensuring there is an appropriate level of global consistency across Monitoring and Testing programs, providing oversight, supporting centralized risk identification systems, and other strategic initiatives. This role provides the opportunity to partner broadly across compliance globally on various management and strategic initiatives and contribute to the expanding remit of Compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison and business system administrator for a suite of key Compliance applications
  • Maintain an accurate and globally consistent inventory of compliance monitoring activities
  • Administer and oversee the Global Monitoring Program Certification process
  • Liaison daily with the technology team to enhance the Compliance applications following the agile methodology of development
  • Review and resolve issues raised in monitoring exception reports, maintain up-to-date system documentation
  • Act as central point of contact for stakeholders globally, addressing day-to-day questions and actioning of requests
  • Project management of application enhancements and adoption (i.e., business requirement drafting, user acceptance testing, communication plans, etc.)
  • Assist in preparing materials for periodic committee and working group meetings that highlight recent achievements, upcoming plans, and other key updates
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis to identify root causes and assist with other Compliance projects to improve efficiency of key processes
  • Adhoc support for strategic initiatives
  • Prior experience in compliance, risk or other applicable experience with a financial institution a plus
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with business partners globally
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to connect dots across systems and processes
  • Excellent communications skills (both written and verbally)
  • Well-developed organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage time-sensitive issues and prioritize effectively
  • Understanding of agile methodology of application development
  • Experience in performing user acceptance testing of applications
  • Experience with program management and project management
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint as well as a working knowledge of data visualization tools

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $110,000 and $190,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
