GOAL has responded to the world’s major humanitarian crises since its founding in 1977, working with vulnerable communities in 15 countries across the globe with a dedicated team of 3,500 personnel. While GOAL continues to be an agile first-responder to humanitarian crises, it is also committed to working with vulnerable communities to help them survive crises and support them on the road to recovery.
Job Purpose
GOAL’s Global Citizenship Education (GCE) programme aims to inform students and educators of GOAL’s work and empower them to understand and critically analyse the root causes and consequences of sudden onset emergencies and related global crises, enabling them to become agents of change in pursuit of a sustainable, resilient and inclusive world. The purpose of the role is to manage GOAL’s innovative global citizenship programme including GOAL’s work in the formal and nonformal education sector working with both learners and educators while positioning GOAL within the GCE sector in Ireland.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Management of GCE Regional Facilitators
- To oversee recruitment and training of 7 freelance GCE facilitators
- To establish and manage systems for booking school workshops
- To manage invoicing, payment, monitoring, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and other aspects of facilitator model
Engagement with teachers, students and others
- To generate and facilitate GCE talks, workshops and competitions nationwide as appropriate, including in schools, colleges, education centres, libraries, youth groups, etc.
- To develop and pilot global citizenship education materials and resources for students and teachers in collaboration with GOAL’s country teams
- To develop promotional and awareness raising materials for schools, as may be required
- To deliver workshop facilitation trainings with teachers, youth volunteers and GOAL staff
- To deliver results and meet targets as set out in GOAL’s Programme Funding proposal and carry out monitoring and ensure effective evaluation of agreed programme components
- To ensure linkages between GOAL’s global citizenship education programme, GOAL’s work overseas and our strategic plan
- To position GOAL’s GCE beyond formal education settings working alongside individuals and groups, including third level institutions, graduate programs, community, youth, and activist groups.
Networks & Partnerships
- To develop and maintain links with key stakeholders within the global citizenship education sectors including schools & teachers, educational institutions, peer organisations and national and international networks
- To actively participate and contribute to sector networks (including IDEA and Dóchas) and support the strategic agenda of the global citizenship education sector in Ireland generally
- To represent GOAL at relevant seminars and conferences
- To maintain and establish new partnerships in the GCE sector including Teaching and Initial Teaching Education (ITE) institutions
General
- To carry out any other responsibilities and duties in other aspects of GOAL’s Global Citizenship programme as may reasonably be requested by the Global Citizenship Manager
- To support the achievement of GOAL’s Strategic Plan 2022-5, particularly Goal 4 People act for a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive world
Requirements
Essential
- Relevant third level qualification in the area of Primary/Post Primary teaching and/or education and/or development education and/or development studies and/or international relations
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in co-ordinating, developing and implementing global citizenship / development education programmes
- Experience of delivering programmes of learning, including an awareness of lesson planning, engaging with active learning methodologies and assessment
- Experience of educational resource creation
- Experience of teaching and /or an understanding of the classroom dynamics
- Excellent facilitation and presentation skills
- A detailed knowledge of national curricula, developments and trends at primary and post primary level
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven organisation and time management skills
- Full clean driving license

GOAL offers staff flexible working with our hybrid model, we require our HQ employees to work 2 days per week from our office in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin.
