Job Overview:

This position is a critically important part of the IRC’s Board Engagement team. This work is highly visible and regularly interacts with Board members directly. The position also interfaces regularly with IRC’s executive staff around the world, including working closely with IRC’s CEO, General Counsel, SVPs, and country leadership staff. This position sits within the External Relations department and supports the Board of Directors work across the organization.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Design and launch initiatives that engage our Board & Advisors members as voices of the IRC in creative and timely ways, such as collaborating with Board members to serve as keynote speakers on behalf of IRC, participate in internal fireside chats, and post on social media.
  2. Collaborate with Board leadership members and IRC executive staff to craft and implement quarterly meetings for the Program Committee, People Committee, and Advocacy Committee.
  3. Coordinate creative engagement events throughout year for Board and Advisors, including one annual Advisors Dinner.
  4. Work with leadership staff presenting to the Board to help synthesize content and fine tune messaging. Frequently provide editorial and copywrite support for pre-reads, presentations, and other written communications.
  5. Serve as team lead on DEI initiatives including meeting with IRC’s Gender Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion team (GEDI) team monthly to collaborate on board-specific DEI communications, and sharing updates on Board-level DEI commitments throughout the year.
  6. Work across the External Relations department to keep the Board and Advisors well appraised of IRC initiatives by supervising the creative and content for the monthly newsletters, writing timely emergency email updates, coordinating emergency briefings with the CEO and relevant country leadership staff.
  7. Supervise Board Engagement Associate’s work related to Salesforce,Board Effect (IRC’s board portal), and other special projects.
  8. Implement tailored onboarding programs for new Board or Advisors members and present about the teams work to internal and external stakeholders.

Job Requirements:

Work Experience:

Minimum: 4+ years in fundraising for higher education or non-profit organization

Preferred: Experience at international organizations. Experience with non-profit governing bodies and board relations.

Proven Skills and Proficiencies: Excellent oral and written communication skills, solid organizational skills, ability to work independently, ability to multi-task in response to shifting priorities, solid computer skills.

Preferred experience & skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as, an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications.
  • Strong interpersonal and time-management skills; proven track record to prioritize and deliver on time.
  • Strong analytic problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a multifaceted, cross-functional global team structure.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to lead and work through change in a proactive and positive manner.
  • Comfortable working directly with Board and Advisor member.
  • Dedication to respect and maintain confidentiality of donor information.

  • Standard office working environment.
  • This role may require working remotely full or part time and part time remote employees may be required to share workspace.

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
