Job Description

Reporting to the Vice President, GM for Asia5 will be accountable for the business and management of the South Korea affiliate, establishing credibility and leadership with all members of the management team. S/he will provide strategic direction and effective management in order to ensure a strong team working culture so that the business achieves its ambitious performance objectives and systems and procedure keep pace. This includes ensuring the achievement of company objectives and profit targets and the success of new product launches, from marketing vision and strategy to implementation. S/he will also interface effectively with the relevant global divisions to maximize lifecycle opportunities for products both locally and at a global level. Beyond the local responsibilities, the GM South Korea will also be a member of the Asia5 Leadership Team.

Specific Accountabilities Include

  • Overall representation of the company in South Korea, being the responsible legal person and statutory Director covering:
  • Legal and fiscal responsibilities and being the representative of the company (and associated entities) on legal/statutory issues.
  • Compliance with statutory accounting practices and local employment laws.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of reporting.
  • The interface between the company and other pharmaceutical companies, patient groups, scientific organizations, main customers, suppliers, health authorities and key opinion leaders.
  • Prepare and agree realistic but ambitious budgets with Asia5 Management.
  • Maximizing the sales and profit growth of the affiliate:
    • Take responsibility for the profitable development of the affiliate, maximizing the potential of existing product ranges and ensuring the successful introduction of new products.
    • Play a full and active part, alongside other Senior Managers in the growth of the company. Work closely with the regional marketing groups in order to ensure revenue and growth targets are met on a product-by-product basis.
  • In coordination with the support Functions and the Leadership of the Region, position the company with key stakeholders within the country including health authorities, key opinion leaders, policy makers and payers. Develop the profile of the company and ensure that the company is respected and viewed as a highly professional player within the industry, within trade associations and at Governmental level.
  • Drive access negotiations and Government Affairs activities priorities in all therapy areas with relevant stakeholders – payers, regulators, the scientific community and relevant patient associations.
  • Shape the organization, coach, lead and develop the team; foster teamwork as well as a leadership culture which attracts, develops and retains high calibre talent to build and shape a talent pool that will drive the future successes of the organization.
  • Provide motivational leadership through personal example and by forming and leading a highly motivated and energetic management team.

The position will be based in Seoul, South Korea.

Candidate Profile will

  • Be able to demonstrate a track record of leading a business within the specialty pharma space and hands-on experience in an operational management position or as a General Manager in South Korea or another relevant markets
  • Have international experience outside South Korea
  • Be a mature professional with significant experience in the biopharmaceutical industry in sales and marketing and related functions. Be Entrepreneurial with a bias toward action and a results orientation.
  • Have excellent strategic thinking skills with ability to formulate, develop and execute strategy including a demonstrated ability to conceive, develop and implement multi-dimensional marketing and business plans with excellence in project management/prioritization.
  • Ability to establish, implement and communicate a clear, compelling and inspiring vision of growth which is linked with the overall strategy of the business, driving superior sales and market share growth through an intense focus on priorities.
  • Be able to successfully manage a significant budget possessing a high level of skill and experience in the area of revenue forecasting and P&L management
  • Have a strong work ethic and personal integrity. With excellent communication and presentation skills, demonstrating the ability to gain credibility, engender trust and influence all levels.
  • Ability to engage at the most senior levels of government to prosecute the company’s agenda in bring innovative new products to South Korea
  • Proven general management and leadership capability: ability to manage, motivate and develop (coach) a team, possessing excellent interpersonal skills to lead, interact with, focus, resolve conflict and drive consensus among individuals from a variety of cultures and disciplines.
  • Pragmatic and enjoy getting involved in the business at all levels and across all disciplines
  • Possess charisma and display personal and professional maturity
  • Strong executive presence with ability to command respect through exercise of sound business judgment and clear decision-making, and excellent communication skills.
  • Have good understanding of and ability to interact with and influence other functions within an affiliate and within corporate International / Global structures.
