We are looking for a Gender Equality & Social Inclusion Technical Advisor (GESI) to provide technical assistance within USAID Education System Strengthening Activity (ESSA) projects**.**

About the role

Liberia Education Systems Strengthening Activity (ESSA) is a five-year program funded by USAID. ESSA will build a more capable education system that functions better at the county and district levels to drive, measure, and incentivise the delivery of quality and inclusive education. ESSA will support the Government of Liberia’s education priorities by collaborating with the Ministry of Education (MOE).

Sightsavers is seeking a GESI Technical Advisor who will be responsible for ensuring the program meets the specific needs of girls, learners with disabilities, and other marginalised groups in Liberia.

Key duties and accountabilities include:

  • Contribute to the development and dissemination of an ESSA Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Strategy
  • Ensure ESSA central, county, and district assessments address GESI issues
  • Support the design and implementation of relevant studies, such as the proposed studies on school-related gender-based violence, women’s leadership, and learners with disabilities
  • Contribute to the development of a learning agenda and plan for operations research focused on quality and equity in education delivery
  • Identify ways of effectively implementing the Inclusive Education Strategy and the National Girls’ Education Strategy
  • Assist MOE to strengthen the capacity of its Education Management Information System to collect sex and disability disaggregated data and to integrate these data into educational decision-making
  • Provide training for staff on data disaggregation
  • Assist MOE to target resources to support marginalised learners
  • Assist MOE to incorporate GESI principles in policies, materials, tools, professional standards, reporting structures, guidelines etc.
  • Assist MOE to align supervision and monitoring mechanisms with GESI principles
  • Ensure training and training and training of trainers and school stakeholders incorporate GESI perspectives
  • Liaise with civil society organisations, particularly women’s organisations and organisations of persons with disabilities, and support the development of civil society coalitions
  • Assist Liberia Media Activity to address GESI issues
  • Assist ESSA to incorporate GESI perspectives in external communications.

About you

As the successful candidate you will have:

  • A Master’s level qualification (or above) in education studies or a field relevant to this position (e.g. child psychology, early childhood development)
  • Knowledge of current issues and best practice in inclusive education
  • Awareness of international agreements and national legislation in the field of human rights, particularly in the field of gender and disability
  • Experience working with the Liberia Ministry of Education is highly desirable, but not essential
