The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate is to promote and protect durable solutions to conflict and displacement affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights.
DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 250 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2022 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.
About the job
Under the management of the GBV Manager, in close cooperation with GBV team members, the GBV Officer will be 100% field based and will provide SGBV case management and counselling interventions, and conduct emotional support groups with women, girls and survivors of gender-based violence. The GBV Officer will support the adequate implementation and coordination of DRC’s protection objectives and activities.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
- Provide GBV case management services through high quality and confidential interventions in line with minimum standards for service provision and DRC’s case management SOPs. This will include assessment of needs, development of an action plan for recovery, development of a safety plan when needed, conducting referrals to relevant services, implementing the action plan and ensuring appropriate follow up and case closure when appropriate;
- Provide counselling for all survivors referred to case management service;
- Conduct case management in safe spaces identified in collaboration with survivors, including shelters; only conduct home visits to child spouses whilst ensuring own safety and the safety and confidentiality of survivors;
- File and store GBV data in the gender-based violence information management systems (GBVIMS and GBVIMS+) in compliance with the information sharing protocol developed at the inter-agency level;
- Provide emotional support group sessions to women and girls at risk of or survivors of gender-based violence in compliance with best-practice and DRC’s guidelines;
- Deliver basic SGBV trainings to DRC staff and non-SGBV frontlines, including sessions on the GBV core concepts and guiding principles and the safe identification and referral of SGBV cases;
- Conduct awareness raising to encourage help-seeking behavior of GBV survivors
- Disseminate action-oriented, specific, inclusive, and supportive messaging on available services for GBV survivor
- Make referrals for health care and multidisciplinary range of services
- Provide technical support to adapt GBV case management services to meet the age-appropriate needs of child survivors
- Provide emergency funds for urgent needs of GBV survivors
- Strengthen the capacity of service providers responding to GBV survivors
- Implement risk mitigation strategies to decrease vulnerability to GBV
- Provide information to persons vulnerable to GBV
- Support GBV manager in the implementation of GVB program activities.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have Bachelor in Social work, Counseling, Psychology or any other related field. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
- 2+ years of experience in providing SGBV case management;
- Knowledge of GBV, child protection and PSS basic principles;
- Knowledge of GBV case management principles;
- Demonstrated experience in working on women’s protection such as empowerment programs, reproductive health, counseling, etc.
- Previous experience in working with communities, running GBV prevention curricula, raising awareness and providing services in shelters and village settings.
- Good communication and psychosocial first aid skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Fluency English, Ukrainian and Russian.

- Knowledge of the negative impacts of child labor on child development;
- Knowledge about basic reproductive health;
- Commitment to achieve gender equality and end all forms of Gender Based Violence
- Computer skills, including knowledge of Excel.
- Understanding of operational context in East Ukraine.
