The Opportunity

The Gender and Gender-based Violence (GBV) Coordinator will provide technical support and leadership to ensure the NWS office identifies and addresses gender inequality and all its manifestations (including GBV). They will lead on the systematic integration of gender equality into strategic, technical and operational processes to meet Save the Children’s quality standard for our humanitarian programming to be gender-sensitive at a minimum. The post holder will work with all sectors and parts of the organisation to mainstream gender and mitigate GBV across the programme cycle. In addition, they will regularly consult women, girls, men and boys to identify targeted gender equality and GBV interventions and support existing sectors to protect and empower girls. They will work directly with implementing partners to ensure that Gender Equality and GBV risk mitigation is embedded in all program activity implementation. The position holder will received technical support and guidance from the country Gender and Inclusion TA.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
* Ensure that gender equality and GBV are mainstreamed in all sectors in NWS in line with SCI gender equality policy, IASC Gender Handbook and IASC GBV guidelines
* Support Nutrition partners to increase male engagement in nutrition activities through initiating and maintaining father to father support groups, and identification of male nutrition champions in the community
* Provide ongoing technical support to partners in NWS on gender responsive program implementation through trainings, coaching and
* Build capacity of project and partner staff in gender Equality and GBV prevention and response principles in project activities.
* Represent gender and GBV mitigation aspects of the project to external stakeholders, such as the donor and partners; disseminate learnings and best practices; and participate in technical working groups.
* Work with the Gender and Inclusion TA to conduct a Humanitarian Gender Analysis for NWS: desk review, tools development, staff training, field research, analysis, and report write-up
* Identify opportunities for targeted GBV programming and Gender Equality interventions in NWS
* Facilitate an office-wide training on gender equality (including on the Humanitarian Gender Equality Marker and the Humanitarian Gender and GBV Minimum Actions)
* Conduct short training sessions for each sector on the IASC Gender Handbook (which supports gender mainstreaming)
* Conduct short training sessions for each sector on the IASC GBV Guidelines (which support GBV prevention and mitigation) including all frontline staff – who come into contact with survivors – on safe and ethical referrals
* Adapt Safety Audit and Assessment tool and train staff and partners on its use: to systematically collect data on risks and mitigating measures
Provide field insights on the development of high-quality gender responsive concept notes and proposals, in coordination with partners and other SC staff.
* Review and Monitor programme quality assurance tools, such as needs assessment tools, programme level indicators, quality checklists for use in spot checks, complaints and response mechanisms, internal review and programme evaluation work plans, and others in conjunction with the MEAL team and ensure they are gender sensitive.
* Identify women’s rights organisations and girl-led initiatives and outline opportunities for meaningful engagement
* Support improving access to, and trust in, reporting mechanisms for sexual harassment
* Work closely with the program specialist (education, CP, H&N, WASH and FSL) to strengthen the Gender and inclusion integration and have enhanced response.
* Support in donor and partner reporting where it is related to gender and inclusion cross-cutting areas
* Identify areas of capacities in the implementing partners and work closely with the technical advisor to provide needed trainings and resources

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential:
* Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Community Development, Social Sciences or any other related sector.
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience of addressing gender inequality including through women’s and girls’ empowerment.
* Experience of working on GBV programing in humanitarian settings.
* Demonstrates knowledge of multi-sectorial response to GBV.
* Demonstrates knowledge of current GBV prevention strategies and identifies and applies appropriate
* Experience in GBV prevention and behavior change strategies at different stages of the humanitarian response.
* Proven record of enabling/facilitating change through influencing, inspiring and mobilizing others
* Experience conducting assessments – including gender analysis
* Effective communication skills, written and verbal, and the ability to present arguments clearly and effectively to a wide range of internal and external audiences.
* Significant experience in gender equality training, capacity building, and mentoring Fluent written and spoken English and Arabic.
* Creative, strategic and analytical thinker and experience providing strategic advice and direction in humanitarian contexts.
* Commitment to and understanding of gender equality, child rights, GBV Guiding Principles, the aims and principles of SC, and humanitarian standards such as the Sphere Charter and the IASC Guidelines.
* Commitment to comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child safeguarding, PSEA, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
Desirable
* Communication skills (both written and spoken) in Arabic and English language
* Previous experience managing Implementing Partners
* Experience in remote management
* Experience or knowledge of working and living in relevant regions/contexts
* Experience working in conflict and an infectious disease environment.
