Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Coordinator – Disability, PLF – Brisbane

Project Overview:

The Pacific Labour Facility (PLF) facilitates seasonal and longer-term work opportunities for Pacific workers in Australia. It connects Australian employers with Pacific workers under the newly introduced Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme which combines the existing Pacific Labour Scheme (PLS) and Seasonal Worker Programme (SWP).

Role Overview:

The Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Coordinator – Disability will support the ongoing implementation of the PLF’s GEDSI Strategy, particularly, to coordinate disability inclusion efforts in the PALM scheme.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the GEDSI Manager, the GEDSI Coordinator – Disability will:

Support the development and implementation of a range of targeted GEDSI activities outlined in the PLF GEDSI Strategy and Annual Work Plan/s, with a particular focus on progressing disability inclusion in the PALM scheme
Coordinate initiatives to increase the organisational capacity of Labour Sending Units (LSUs) to support disability inclusion through:

Development of relevant policies, practices, tools and procedures to enable the engagement of workers with disabilities.
Support in country (LSUs) to build relationships with Organisations of People with Disabilities (OPDs)
Coordinate with OPDs and the PLF Disability Adviser to deliver Disability Sensitisation training.
Consider the integration of the Washington Group Short Set into worker applications.
Support monitoring, evaluation and research efforts to better understand the experiences of workers and household members with disabilities
Document case studies to highlight successful disability inclusion in PALM Scheme marketing and communications materials.

Provide support to PLF streams and other key stakeholders to ensure GEDSI is meaningfully mainstreamed into
PALM scheme business processes
Support the implementation of a GEDSI awareness program
Coordinate activities to help raise awareness on important GEDSI topics,
Travel locally and internationally as required.

Required Qualifications:

Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, such as Gender, Social Sciences, International Development, Community Development or Anthropology
Demonstrated professional experience working in the program management of relevant programs, preferably with a Pacific focus.
Good knowledge in disability inclusion, and understanding key concepts of gender equality, or social inclusion, and knowledge of/interest in the other areas with the ability to translate theory into practice.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across multiple cross-cultural contexts.
Strong liaison and coordination skills

This is a Brisbane based role with options for flexible working. Candidates who are willing to relocate for the position must do so at their own expense. You must have valid Australian work rights to be considered for this position – visa sponsorship is not available.
