Bloomsbury Publishing Plc is looking for a Games Assistant to work within Osprey Games, the tabletop gaming imprint of its Special Interest division. The successful applicant will report to the Head of Osprey Games and will work across our growing range of well-known and award-winning gaming titles, which includes board and card games, wargames, and roleplaying games. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join our friendly team based in Oxford, UK, and to dive into the world of tabletop gaming.
The role
Supporting the Osprey Games team:Maintaining our project database, ensuring that it remains accurate and up-to-date.
Preparing agendas and minutes for departmental and inter-departmental meetings.
Liaising with contributors (authors, illustrators, and freelancers) to help keep projects running on schedule.
Monitoring and coordinating correspondence from the general gaming inbox.
Loading project proposals and ensuring that they are accurate and are circulated in good time.
Providing editorial support in the preparation and production of covers, catalogues, press releases, and advertising material.
Shaping the future of Osprey Games:Collating and coordinating proposals for new titles.
Assisting in evaluating and playtesting new gaming projects.
Contributing towards discussions of new gaming projects.
Collating artwork samples and portfolios and maintaining the list of potential illustrators
Assisting in the production of art references, liaising with colleagues and contributors to ensure their accuracy and suitability.
Representing Osprey Games:Responding to customer queries promptly and efficiently.
Providing contributors with in-house support as needed.
Attending conventions and shows, interacting with customers and contributors in person.
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
Great organizational skills, especially time management and the ability to prioritise workload.
Excellent communication skills with colleagues, contributors, and customers.
A strong eye for detail, and a high level of written and spoken English.
Flexibility and adaptability.
IT competency (especially MS Word, Excel, and Outlook) and an aptitude for learning new software.
Professionalism and a positive approach.
A passion for and knowledge of board/card games in particular and other games (tabletop wargames, roleplaying games, etc.) in general!
Additional information
The role is a full-time permanent position with a salary of £21,000
The role is based at our Oxford office (Kemp House, Chawley Park, Cumnor Hill, Oxford OX2 9PH) on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office-based / 3 days home-based (or fully office-based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are Monday and Tuesday.
As an Assistant role, this position is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme. To assist candidates who want to start and to establish a career in publishing, Bloomsbury offers an interest-free rental deposit to support securing somewhere to live. The rental deposit loan can be up to £3,000 and will be paid back over 2 years.
