GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

The Development team drives and supports Mercy Corps’ strategies for restricted funding, unrestricted funds and brand profile raising. Our Direct Marketing programme focuses on strategically growing our supporter base and generating unrestricted income.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Direct Marketing, the Supporter Fundraising and Engagement Officer will support and deliver strategic and operational plans to grow unrestricted income. They will have specific responsibility for the development of regular appeals (offline and online) and delivery of our supporter stewardship programme as well as support emergency appeals and acquisition campaigns. Working closely with our global team, they will plan and source content from across our global organisation, edit in accordance with our brand guidelines, and adapt it to create compelling appeals and stewardship materials for our UK donor audience.

We are looking for an ambitious individual with fundraising experience, who is interested in developing impactful appeals and campaigns to engage our audience and bring on new supporters.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Appeal Management

● Set up and manage schedules to ensure offline retention and acquisition activities are on time and to budget

● Effectively devise and manage all aspects of appeal creation including content gathering, creative, data and print

● Source content and edit and adapt in accordance with our brand guidelines to create compelling appeals and newsletter etc. for our UK donor audience.

● Coordinate with Online to share resources and to align our themes and communications to ensure consistent messaging to our audiences.

● Support and share plans and ideas with Offline counterparts in the U.S. managing appeals for our US donor audience

● Coordinate the smooth and timely exchange of feedback between our Creative Team based on Portland and our external agencies to ensure alignment to our brand and vision

● Maintain all emergency appeal collateral and lead on offline appeals if/when an emergency fundraising go decision is made

● Maintain results sheets and produce campaign reviews, advising on learnings to take forward for future campaign management

Stewardship

● Develop and implement supporter journeys for both new donors and Regular Givers

● Plan and manage bi-annual supporter newsletter mailings

Cross-Campaign Tasks

● Manage invoice log

● Maintain competitor monitoring files

● Be the first point of contact for external agencies, including creative design agencies and printers for appeals

Team Support

● Support and backstop for the Senior Digital Fundraising Officer running onlineappeals.

● Support Fundraising Operations Assistant in stewardship pieces and donor thanking content

Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders

Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our country projects.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Reports Directly to: Senior Manager, Direct Marketing

Works closely with: Senior Digital Fundraising Officer, Development Operations Team, wider Development Team in Europe, U.S. based counterparts.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

● Minimum of one year’s experience in a fundraising department, ideally within direct marketing

● Excellent written communications skills, with experience writing and editing communications for fundraising audiences

● Experience working to tight deadlines in a busy process orientated environment

● Proven ability to work diligently, managing competing priorities

● Skilled in anticipating and logically solving problems that may arise using own initiative

● Highly numerate and confident in interpreting results

● Ability to manage competing priorities and successfully work with different teams to achieve shared goals and meet shared standards

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions

The position is based in London or Edinburgh and may require some minimal travel.
