Croix-Rouge Française

The National RC Societies of Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal carry out first aid activities and have pools of trainers. However, first aid at work (FWA) is generally underdeveloped. The National Societies (NS) have difficulties in making the most of their expertise and do not have a clear strategy for the development of STPs, even though they are a relevant response to a growing need and an opportunity for the NS to strengthen their financial autonomy. Indeed, TSPs represent an income-generating activity with high added value. The French Red Cross (FRC), the World First Aid Reference Centre (WFRC) and the Monaco Red Cross, with the financial support of the DCI Monaco, wish to implement a programme to develop TSP in order to considerably reduce the number and consequences of accidents in the workplace and to enable beneficiary National Societies to train their volunteers and their population autonomously over the long term in life-saving techniques, while at the same time generating income from this activity. The position of First Aid Programme Coordinator directly coordinates the implementation of the programme; it is responsible for monitoring the programme’s activities in the five countries of intervention, and ensuring strategic and contextual coherence. Finally, the programme has a significant learning scope that needs to be steered from this coordination unit. The position is based in the FIU’s West Africa regional office in Dakar.

Reporting to the Deputy Regional Manager for West Africa based in Dakar, and in functional link with the First Aid Technical Advisor (CMRPS), the Programme Coordinator is responsible for the steering and implementation of the First Aid programme. He/she assumes responsibility for all operational and strategic aspects related to the implementation of the project. He/she is the guarantor of the operational coherence of the programme in the 5 countries of intervention, ensures the application of the CFR quality standards in the programme activities and ensures the necessary coordination to ensure the achievement of the project objectives and the respect of the donor rules. He/she will also lead the programme’s capitalisation exercises. Finally, he/she will ensure the link with the project partners (in particular the Monaco RC and the CMRPS), as well as with the donor, in particular through reporting and maintaining effective and transparent communication.
