Finnish Refugee Council (FRC) / Suomen Pakolaisapu (https://pakolaisapu.fi/en/) is a Finnish non-governmental organisation with HQ in Helsinki. The Finnish Refugee Council advocates for the rights of refugees, displaced populations and migrants, and supports them for a new beginning. By reinforcing equity and creating opportunities for everyone to lead a decent life, FRC supports the establishment of fair and equal societies.

Education forms the foundations of an equal society, and FRC´s activities place emphasis on capacity building for the most vulnerable members of societies as well as for community-based organisations, thus strengthening basic democratic structures. Protection for the most vulnerable, particularly women and girls, is also at the centre of FRC operations as well as humanitarian assistance for the forcibly displaced and the most vulnerable among the host communities.

FRC has been registered under the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) and accorded legal personality with Reg. No. 5128 on 8th of November 2023 as International Organisation.

Under funding from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland FRC will start its operations in South Sudan in May 2024 by implementing a 1 year-long humanitarian intervention in East Akobo County, Jonglei State titled “Supporting vulnerable returnees from Sudan & Ethiopia and local population in South Sudan border areas” which includes multi-purpose cash support, financial literacy and GBV protection components.

FRC is searching for a dynamic and pro-active South Sudan national young professional to be appointed,

Financial Literacy (FL) Officer at South Sudan Country Office

Reporting to FRC Team Leader he/she will mentor the trained FL peer facilitators and supervise their performances with learning groups.

Description of Main tasks:

Partner and Community Relations and Mobilisation:

  • Plan as team member with FRC Team Leader and Implementing Partner’s team the implementation of financial literacy trainings in the target project area.
  • Support the selection process of target group members to be trained, location of learning groups and formation.

Technical Adult Education Support and Training

  • Be part of planning and training of FLT Trainers on financial literacy curriculum, adult teaching methodologies and project data collection.
  • Supervise and monitor FLT Trainers: quality of teaching and performance, data collection accuracy.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning

  • Support identification and mapping of other actors providing cash assistance and literacy trainings in the target area.
  • Collect and analyse data using FRC designed M&E tools.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education/ Pedagogy, Business Skills, Livelihood or Community Development with strong relevant experience in training adults.
  • At least 2 years’ professional work experience on training in communities.
  • Willingness to be based in target project area (Akobo East, Jonglei State).
  • Good computing skills; proficiency on Word, Microsoft Office packages and M&E tools such as Kobo toolbox.
  • Good communication, feedback, and interpersonal and supervisory skills, assertive and able to question unclear transactions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication ability.
  • Commitment to FRC´s values and Humanitarian Principles.

Duration of assignment

10 months; the start date of the assignment is 1th of July 2024.
