Financial Director

AZI Media’s mission is to amplify historically marginalized voices through multimedia storytelling to spark conversation and inspire action amongst Asian Americans. AZI Media strives to become a reliable media platform that builds solidarity amongst Asian American communities and across racial, geographic, and other identity lines to achieve collective liberation.

We are looking for a team member who has an entrepreneurial spirit and is passionate about supporting the Asian American community. They’ll be working closely with the co-founders to sustainably and ethically fund this startup from the ground up. This is an opportunity to join a founding team at the very early pre-seed stages.

AZI Media is a bootstrapped news media startup that has not undergone seed round funding yet. AZI launched an Asian American bi-weekly news podcast called At the Moment last year, unpacking Asian diasporic politics for a largely Zillennial audience. This position will be voluntary and completely remote for 10 hours/week, up until the first round of funding is complete. After funding, the position will be compensated on an hourly or stipend basis. Compensation will be equity-based for the time being. 

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for overseeing financial planning, budgets, contracts, tax reporting, and cash flow functions, as well as providing strategic thinking on profit-maximizing ideas that align with the company’s mission and code of ethics. 
• Work closely with the co-founders to perform financial analysis and create quarterly and annual budget reports.
• Ensures AZI is documenting all purchases and expenditures for accounting purposes.
• Assists co-founders with grant writing, searching for investors and putting together pitch decks. 

Requirements:

• 10 hours/week between Sunday-Friday, working hours flexible
• The ability to learn quickly, solve problems creatively, and self-manage multiple priorities
• 1+ years of experience in financial management, preferably with a background in non-profit or startup environments
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Proficient in Google sheets
• Financial transparency and communication
