The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be 50% Monrovia, Liberia and the other 50% will be made up of project visits in the field.

Welthungerhilfe’s Country Office in Liberia has been implementing relief and development projects since 2003 with a focus on Agriculture/Inclusive Food Systems and Nutrition Security, Infrastructure, Health System Strengthening and WASH. As Finance Officer, you will provide leadership in the implementation of all financial management standards and consistent enforcement of internal controls and compliance with financial policies and procedures. You will instruct and support partner organizations in matters relating to financial management and enhance their capacity to fulfill their contractual obligations to Welthungerhilfe.

Your responsibilities

  • Ensure that project financial and administrative operations are in compliance with Welthungerhilfe financial policies and procedures and donor contractual agreements
  • Provide technical supervision for all project finance staff
  • Ensure that voucher documentation is adequate and appropriate before payments are executed
  • Ensure that all transactions are duly authorized
  • Implement all audit recommendations in a timely manner
  • Ensure that booking texts of transactions are consistent with approved booking texts, budget line assignments and bookkeeping entries are recorded correctly in the booking tool (FundsPro)
  • Perform bookings of project bank transactions daily in FundsPro, including scanning
  • Ensure monthly reconciliation of cash and bank balances and clearing of open items within a maximum of two months
  • Monthly reconciliation of receivables and payables and ensure open items are cleared within a maximum of two months, with only reasonable exceptions
  • Ensure donor reports are accurate and submitted timely
  • Support the Head of Project within the framework of project administration

Your profile

  • A university degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline|: ACCA or CPA qualification will be an added advantage
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in a similar position, with a reputable INGO, UN agency or in the private sector
  • Strong proven experience in managing people
  • Proven experience with key requirements of major European donors
  • Proven experience in working with project-based management
  • Demonstrated experience in working with civil society/local organizations
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe’s programme countries
  • Excellent spoken and written English language skills
