About the role

Finance Officer is responsible for following up on the daily and monthly financial transactions, checking all the documents of the procurement and HR before making the transactions, and preparing all the documents of the financial reports according to the policies of The Syria Development Centre and the donors.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing the budget for each project according to the activities approved by the programs department in coordination between all departments.
  • Follow up expenses in accordance with plans approved by the Program Department according to the budget approved by the Donor.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the documents submitted by the accounting department for any procurement process or employees according to budget and provide the necessary advice in the event of any error.
  • Facilitating all transactions and operations related to banking.
  • Preparing financial reports in Excel.
  • Export all financial reports from the accounting program required by each donor.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for submission to donors on or before the deadlines as needed.
  • Managing records and receipts.
  • Reconciling daily, monthly, and yearly transactions
  • Reporting to a Finance manager and supporting the finance and accounting teams.
  • Reviewing purchase transactions before payment to suppliers from start to finish to be ready to be auditable according to the donor and the Syria Development Centre internal policies.
  • Ensure that grants are implemented in compliance with Syria Development Centre and relevant donor regulations
  • Train and support program staff on donor compliance, budget monitoring, and Grants management.
  • Ability to visit field sites to check the documentation and ensure compliance with donor and Syria Development Centre regulations.
  • Ensures compliance withSyria Development Centre policies and procedures.
  • In coordination with the management team, coordinates the review and update of SOPs and ensures alignment to Syria Development Centre policies and procedures, and accounting standards while maintaining congruence with donor regulations and compliance standards.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.

  • At least three years of experience in financial management, with experience in the humanitarian sector preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of financial management, accounting principles, and reporting standards.

  • Strong analytical skills and be able to interpret financial data to make informed decisions.

  • Detail-oriented to ensure that financial records are accurate and all financial reporting requirements are met.

  • Able to communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.

  • Should be proficient in financial software and accounting (QuickBooks Online) packages, as well as Microsoft Excel and other relevant software programs.

  • Fluent in English and Arabic, with Turkish language skills preferred.

  • Strong commitment to the values and mission of the organization.
