- Purpose of Position The Finance Manager will play a critical role in overseeing financial operations and managing resources within a non-profit social service organization that operates within a unionized environment. This role involves maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing financial guidance to support the organization’s mission and objectives. This position will manage s team of 5 non-exempt staff in the Finance Department.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and execute financial plans that align with the organization’s strategic goals.
- Prepare and analyze budgets, financial forecasts, and financial reports to provide insights to management.
- Manage the budgeting process, working with department heads to create, monitor, and adjust budgets as needed.
- Monitor spending patterns and advise management on cost-saving measures while maintaining program quality.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and union agreements.
- Oversee the financial aspects of grant applications, including budget development, tracking, and reporting.
- Collaborate with program managers to ensure funds are allocated appropriately and utilized effectively.
- Monitor cash flow and manage liquidity to meet operational needs while adhering to financial targets.
- Forecast cash requirements and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to secure funding as necessary.
- Coordinate and manage audits, ensuring accurate and complete financial documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and union agreements in financial operations.
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard financial assets and ensure accuracy.
- Oversee financial systems and technology solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Provide financial guidance to department heads and senior leadership to support informed decision-making.
- Collaborate with union representatives to address financial matters related to employee compensation and benefits.
- Analyze and monitor projects’ fund and cash balances and keep project and team informed of status, issues.
- Work with staff accountants to ensure timely and accurate processing of payables, deposits and billings.
- Position Requirements, Competencies and Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive financial management experience in a non-profit organization, with union-related experience a plus.
- Strong understanding of non-profit accounting principles, regulations, and compliance.
- Proficiency in financial management software and systems (knowledge of Financial Edge a plus).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and adapt in a dynamic environment.
- Outstanding knowledge of MS Office, and QuickBooks
- Volunteer for tasks outside job responsibility to help the work unit achieve its goals.
- Self-motivated and self-directed.
- Reliable with patience and professionalism.
3.1 Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Professional certification such as CPA or CMA is highly desirable.
3.2 Experience
- Education can be substituted for experience.
- Minimum of 7 combined years of experience in administration, operations, fundraising, and management.
