The role:

The aim of this internship is to support the development and management of the WCA Regional office’s financial practices in accordance with the guidelines and principles set forth in the Save the Children Financial Policies and Procedures.

Reports to: Finance Officer with a dotted line Manager

Qualifications and experience:

Essential

  • Have a degree in Finance, Computer Science or equivalent;
  • Have knowledges on computer tools (word, excel, database, SharePoint, network, internet, outlook, etc… any other important software in the framework of the work of ONGIs);
  • A previous experience in an NGO will be appreciate;
  • Knowledge of English is an asset;
  • Experience in archiving would be an asset;

  • Be professional;
  • Ability to manage stress and to work under difficult conditions;
  • Organizational skills, teamwork skills, empathy and flexibility.

Objectives of the assignment

  • The Finance Intern has responsibility to support with the archiving of all financial documents;
  • The Finance Intern has responsibility to support Payments, receipts and disbursement of funds.

Expected outputs/specific deliverables

  • Payments and Accounting:

  • Maintain filing of monthly accounting vouchers, journals, spreadsheets and other finance documents;

  • Support Regional Office on payments and ensure those are approved accordingly;

  • Support staff expenses claims payments by ensuring staff are continually made aware of the requirements when claims and payment requests are submitted;

  • Prepare staff travel advance and float reconciliation;

  • Register expenditure transactions in the business system ensuring completeness and accuracy in numeracy and financial coding;

  • Support on monthly closing of books within deadline and checklist;

  • Respond to queries related to payments from internal staff, consultants, countries, vendors etc.

  • Treasury Management:

  • Deposit bank transfers letters at the bank and check withdrawals;

  • Update the bank log on a daily basis with payments and make sure the RO does not run out of cash;

  • Petty Cash management and registration in Agresso;

  • Ensure that internal control procedures are followed for all disbursements, receipts and transfers of funds.

  • Audit support

  • Support in year-end and awards audit coordination and responding to audit issues;

  • Assist during the year end closure and audit preparation including partners Audit;

  • Maintaining up-to-date, accurate and complete paper files of all financial documents;

  • Including Electronic filing of houses contracts and consultant’s contracts.

Profile of the Intern:

We are looking for a dynamic profile who is willing to learn and motivated to work with SCI. Note that this internship is open Only to National Applicants or Senegal Residents

Location: Senegal Dakar

Contract length: 6 months with possibility of extension, relevant to fund availability and performance
