Chemonics International, a US-based international development consulting firm seeks a Finance Director for the anticipated USAID NextGen Ugavi Bora, Afya Bora (Better Supply, Better Health) activity to be based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania**.** This activity aims to strengthen supply chain and pharmaceutical services to ensure sustainable access to and appropriate use of safe, effective, quality-assured, affordable health commodities and will work to develop the capacity of local systems, institutions, and individuals to sustainably manage supply chains, for both USAID-procured health commodities and those procured through national/local systems, and to strengthen local pharmaceutical management systems, including quality pharmaceutical services and national regulatory systems. The Finance Director will report to the Deputy Chief of Party – Finance and Operations and will be responsible for establishing and managing all project finance and accounting procedures in line with USAID rules and regulations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain the activity’s budget, financial management and tracking systems to ensure strong financial accountability and compliance with USAID, Chemonics, and government of Tanzania financial and administrative requirements
  • Supervise daily and routine financial, administrative, and operational tasks including monthly accounting cycle, payment of staff salaries, and bank statement monitoring and reconciliation
  • Participate in work planning, and work closely with the technical team to prepare and monitor costed work plans
  • Develop budgets for annual workplans, prepare financial reports, and supervise expenditures
  • Develop internal control measures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business administration, Economics, Accounting, or a related field
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in finance/accounting for international development programs, including at least 5 years of experience working on USAID projects
  • Demonstrated experience supporting and working with activity technical staff to accurately account for expenditures
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills
  • Proficiency in reading, and writing in English required, Swahili desirable
