Peace Brigades International (PBI) is an international nongovernmental organization (INGO) registered before the United Nations (UN) and founded in 1981. We have over 40 years experience in international accompaniment and we’ve been present in Mexico since 1999.

PBI’s mandate is to create a space for peace and human rights protection. Our work is based on international presence, including: international physical presence, public relations, creating and strengthening support networks for rights defenders, observation and research activities, etc.

PBI Mexico is looking for a qualified professional to manage our finances, accounting and fundraising, as our next Finance Coordinator.

This post is part of the remote staff structure, it is part-time and it bears the responsibility of coordinating and supervising all financial and reporting processes of PBI’s Mexico Project.

The Finance Coordinator will work closely with the General Coordinator, the Fundraising Coordinator (both remote posts) and the Administration Coordinator (based in Mexico).

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

– Ensure that PBI Mexico complies with its legal and governance obligations required by accounting and revenue policies in Mexico, within the global organization of PBI and our donors.

– Guaranteeing adequate financial flow in order to implement our Operative and Strategic Planning.

– Guaranteeing adequate funding for the needs of the project, through operative and strategic support from our fundraising department, with whom you’ll develop our main financial planning tools.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fundraising (25%)

– Develop and coordinate, together with our Fundraising Coordinator and General Coordinator, funding applications and financial reports for funding opportunities, according to the needs of the project and donor deadlines.

– Coordinate financial accountability reports to donors, together with our Administration Coordinator.

Treasury (15%)

– Planning financial flow, coordinate transfers and monitoring the cash flow situation between PBI’s international accounts and our Mexico accounts.

– Supporting the implementation of the annual budget of PBI in Mexico.

Accounting and Legal (30%)

– Consolidating global accounting needs of PBI Mexico through Quickbooks software

– Guaranteeing compliance of accounting and fiscal responsibilities in Mexico, USA, Spain and other countries where PBI Mexico has a legal registration.

– Generating the necessary information for our annual audit

– Guaranteeing compliance with good practice management policies and PBI’s financial policies, together with our Administration Coordinator.

Financial Planning and Monitoring (20%)

– Develop and follow up on annual budget, thematic budget and specific budgets of PBI Mexico and its inner departments.

– Develop alternative budgets and approve them according to identified priorities.

– Look after financial sustainability of PBI Mexico in decision making, financial implementation and linking it with staff and services recruitment

– Develop internal and external financia reports for PBI’s International Councils and the Finance Working Group, as well as other departments in PBI Global.

Internal Coordination (10%)

– Take part in internal coordination spaces

– Contribute to knowledge building on Mexico and the activities of PBI Mexico

– Communicate regularly with the General Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator and Administration Coordinator to monitor the financial situation and plan a calendar for reports and funding applications.

– Represent PBI Mexico in international platforms for finance coordination.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

– Identification with the mission and principles of Peace Brigades International

– Demonstrable experience of at least 4 years of financial monitoring, reporting and coordinating in NGOs, corporations, projects or international cooperation organizations

– Experience in auditing and reporting to several departments and institutions (legal, financial, or other)

– Relevant university studies (accounting, economics, management, administration or other)

– Spoken and written fluency in Spanish, basic written and spoken knowledge of english

– Familiarity with relevant software: Office, Excel and accounting / financial management software

– Knowledge of the procedures and protocols of budget and financial administration (analysis, forecast, reporting)

– Knowledge of international protocols on finance and accounting. Experience of accounting work with different currencies and knowledge of criteria established by donors and audits.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

– High capacity for prioritizing, organization and planning of work, good time management, multitasking and meeting deadlines

– Able to work under pressure or during stressful conditions.

– High capacity for teamwork, task coordination and responsibility in horizontal structures and decision making by consensus

– Good communication skills

Estimated start:

mid-august 2022, as soon as possible

Contract duration:

Two years with a 6 month probation. Renewal for a similar period of time, pending positive evaluation and mutual agreement.

What we offer:

– Part-time post, horizontally or vertically according to agreement with PBI Mexico, totaling 24 hours a week (possibility of increasing to 28)

– Monthly salary of 1.414 euros, subject to our annual salary increase policy.

– 25 paid vacation days plus 8 national holidays per year.

– Paid work-related expenses, under policies stipulated in annual budget.
