Geneva Call is a neutral, impartial and independent international humanitarian organization, endeavours to strengthen the respect of international humanitarian norms and principles by armed actors, in order to improve the protection of civilians. Appel de Genève/Geneva Call is a private, not-for-profit, humanitarian organization foundation under Swiss law, founded in 2000.

 

Geneva Call is implementing a programme to improve the protection of civilians in Iraq through engagement with armed actors and raising the awareness of Iraqi civil society on international humanitarian norms.

 

Mission

In the context of Geneva call the role of the Finance Assistant is to support with the input of operational transactions into the financial systems

 

 

Role

As Finance Assistant the responsibilities will include processing payments, updating financial records, and managing invoices. To be succeed as a Finance Assistant, you should have strong knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, good organisational skills, and working knowledge of accounting software.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

               

The Finance Assistant will be based in Baghdad and responsible for,

 

  • Ensuring transparent management of Finance department of the Geneva Call’s office according to the internal procedures and guidelines, as well as to the local legislation.
  • Adhere to Geneva Call policies, tools and handbooks.
  • Ensure proper filing of administrative finance documents.
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required.
  • Implement delegated Finance according to plan of action.

 

 

The Finance Assistant reports to Admin Finance Coordinator of Geneva Call in Iraq. 

 

 

 

 

 

Main Tasks and responsibilities.

 

Cash management

  • Facilitate withdawal/banking transactions including requests for wire transfer to other offices;
  • Review purchase requisitions, request for payments, reimbursements and liquidation;
  • Ensure cash payments;
  • Prepare cash requests in coordination with the head of mission;
  • Ensure all tax payments are decducted and filed to the relevant tax authority;

 

Bookkeeping

  • Verify the registration and coding of all financial transactions in accordance with financial procedures;
  • Enter all transactions items according to the chart of accounts;
  • Consolidate all liquidations of the monthly operational expenses;
  • Weekly review of the liquidity based on the cash position;
  • Scan all supporting documents and send them electronically to Headquarters;
  • Ensure the archiving of all approved and registered financial documents;
  • Assist the auditors for the annual audit, donor’s audit and audit of the tax authorities;

 

Controlling and Reporting

  • Provide regular information to the Admin Finance Manager on the state of finances;
  • Prepare and update budget monitoring documets on monthly basis;
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and present them to the Admin Finance Manager for validation;
  • Ensure all donor requirements and conditions are strictly followed;
  • Assist in the consolidation and finalization of annual country programme budget;

 

 

Other tasks:

Any other task as requested by Finance department or Admin Finance Coordinator.

 Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education:

Bachelor’s in accounting.

 

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of work experience in Finance and Administration with humanitarian or international organizations;

 

Technical skills:

  • Administrative and HR management skills
  • Operating relevant IT Tools for admin and logistics
  • Strong communication and people management skills
  • Report writing skills

 

Languages:

  • Very good written and oral skills in English, Kurdish and Arabic.
