About CVT:
The Center for Victims of Torture (CVT) is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to providing trauma rehabilitative services to survivors of gross human rights abuses, including torture, and works toward a future in which gross human rights violations ceases to exist and its victims have hope for a new life. We are headquartered in Minnesota, USA with offices in Africa and the Middle East. We work locally, nationally and internationally through programs that provide trauma rehabilitative services, conduct technical assistance and capacity building to human rights activists, civil society organizations, and local service providers around the world who can prevent and treat gross human rights abuses, and advocate for human rights and an end to gross human rights violations.
About the Position:
The Finance Assistant is a member of CVT operation team in Iraq. Under the supervision of the Country Director, s/he is responsible for maintaining accurate and transparent records of field expenses; administering payroll tracking; monitoring cash flow and disbursements; and ensuring the overall smooth functioning of timely, cost-effective and accountable financial systems in accordance with CVT Field Financial Policies.
Job Responsibilities
- Support internal and external financial reviews and audits as requested.
- Review and account for all financial transactions
- Review monthly staff payrolls.
- Review and reconcile cash records and cash accounts.
- Enter expenses, receipts and other disbursements and financial transactions into the finance tracking system.
- Work closely with the CD in the preparation of monthly financial reports and monthly wire transfers and ensure timely submission to HQ including all invoices and supporting documents.
- Monitor CVT bank accounts and balances in Iraq.
- Prepare and submit any reporting required by the government.
- Responsible to all internal, governmental and other audit preparations and facilitation.
- Managing the cash flow for daily operations and ensuring enough cash is available for project expenses.
- Disbursing cash for expenditures in accordance with approved Purchase Requests.
- Facilitate procurement documents processing and verify all procurement documents for payment against receipts.
- Handle petty cash.
- If requested, provide basic accounting training to administrative staff to handle petty cash and accurately record basic transactions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting or other business-related degree.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Minimum 1-year experience working with NGOs.
- Demonstrated experience working with relevant financial management and accounting software.
- High standards for accuracy, judicious use of financial resources, and attention to detail.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word and Excel).
- Excellent skills in organization, quantitative financial analysis, and time management (including the ability to meet deadlines).
- Kurdish and English languages are required. Arabic is preferred.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Self-driven with integrity, initiative, and ability to think and work independently.
- Demonstrable effective interpersonal skills, including assertive communication style, ability to work on a team, ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback, ability to maintain positive relationships with CVT colleagues and project partners.
- Must consistently promote and represent a humanitarian and human rights understanding of their work internally and externally, including promoting acceptance of differences and non-discrimination.
- Commitment to and role modeling of human rights approach including maintaining respect regarding any sensitive issues such as religion, minority or political affiliation and treating colleagues equally regardless of differences. Strong commitment to serve beneficiaries of CVT’s project regardless of their religion, gender, minority affiliation or political background.
- Ability to demonstrate self-reflection and willingness to develop personally and professionally.
- Provide formal feedback to colleagues when requested for ongoing performance evaluation and development.
- Commitment to the ethical and sensitive implementation of project activities, including a commitment to confidentiality, diversity, equity, and inclusion, quality service provision, and the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (including online).

Travel:
Occasional travel to sites outside of Erbil could be required depending on project needs and to monitor and support the financial system of implementing partners.
