This is an exciting opportunity to manage NRC Germany’s financial operations, focusing on compliance with NRC and national policies and standards, and the effective financial planning, monitoring, oversight, and control of projects/programs being implemented through NRC Germany.

What we are looking for:

NRC Germany is seeking a Self-starter and a highly qualified “Finance Adviser” with demonstrated experience providing financial support across complex projects and budgets and with familiarity with institutional funding and understanding of donor requirements in the German market.

What you will do:

Some of your responsibilities include:

Accounting Duties

  • In cooperation with the Head of Finance manage the organization’s financial systems and processes.
  • Entering transactions, maintaining general ledger, and accounting records.
  • Manage finance processes such as banking, payables/receivables, payroll, intercompany, budgeting and reconciliation.
  • Processing information; preparing monthly closing package, balance sheet, profit, and loss statement.
  • Assist in optimizing and digitalizing internal accounting processes such as payment run, salary journal.
  • Produce regular updates and analysis, control of office finances, including budget monitoring and cash flows.
  • In cooperation with the Head of Finance manager that the office’s financial set up adheres to the financial handbook, NRC policies, and local statutory requirements.
  • Co-Lead on external audits, year-end audits, and follow-up on recommendations.
  • Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.

Project Support & Quality Control

  • Provide technical support on project proposal development and implementation.
  • Conduct quality checks and reviews of program/project budgets and financial reports to donors, including where appropriate quality control on supporting documentation.
  • Support the submission of timely, accurate and complete proposals, payment requests and reports to German institutional donors.
  • Engage with NRC Global, Regional and Country level finance and implementing partners finance teams.
  • Monitor, document and verify incoming projects funds, communicate exchange rates to NRCs Country Offices and transfer project funds to NRC HO.
  • Deliver training and capacity building, and provide support and guidance on NRC’s finance policies, systems, tools, and German donor’s rules and regulations.
  • Conduct country field visits to monitor compliance of internal control and financial systems, and reporting protocols, as required.

What you will bring:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience providing financial support across complex projects and budgets.
  • Familiarity with institutional funding and understanding of donor requirements.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work independently.
  • Solid knowledge of computer software and modern accounting systems
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Fluency in German and English.

  • Duty station: Germany (preferably Berlin).
  • Contract: National Permanent contract.
  • Salary/benefits: Grade 8 on NRC’s German salary scale, with accompanying terms and conditions.
