Background

Vétérinaires Sans Frontières – Germany (VSF Germany) is a non-governmental, non-profit making international Organization, engaged in the field of veterinary relief and development work providing humanitarian aid and development assistance to pastoralists and vulnerable communities in areas where livestock is of importance. With support in animal health, agriculture, marketing, and food safety, VSFG works towards food security and strengthened livelihoods of pastoralist communities. VSF Germany implements activities in Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda and Somalia.

VSF Germany seeks to recruit qualified and well experienced staff for the position of Field Officer to be based at VSF Germany office at the field location, South Sudan. The holder of this position will have an overall and project oversight for the project implemented in South Sudan Country Program under VSF Germany. The pay range for this position attracts a maximum of $600 per month gross with placement determined by the level of experience as assessed during the recruitment process. Duties and Responsibilities

This position will be assigned the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Engage with local communities to understand their livelihood needs, aspirations, and challenges
  2. Project Rollout: Facilitate the implementation of livelihood activities as per the project plan.
  3. Train beneficiaries on income-generating activities, sustainable farming practices, vocational skills, and entrepreneurship.
  4. Support M&E team in collecting regularly the data on project progress, impact, and challenges.
  5. Establish feedback channels with beneficiaries to address concerns and improve project effectiveness.
  6. Provide technical support on agriculture and Livestock: technical guidance on crop cultivation, animal husbandry, and natural resource management.
  7. Coordinate with local authorities, NGOs, and other relevant stakeholders.
  8. Attend relevant forums and workshops at the field level to stay informed about livelihood trends and best practices.
  9. Prepare timely progress reports, including challenges faced and lessons learned.
  10. Document success stories and case studies to showcase project impact.
  11. Assess security risks and take necessary precautions during field visits.
  12. Ensure gender-responsive project activities while addressing the needs of vulnerable groups (women, youth, elderly, etc.).
  13. Organize community meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  14. Mediate conflicts related to project activities.
  15. Being prepared to adapt strategies based on changing circumstances (e.g., conflict, weather conditions)
  16. Perform any other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor

Qualifications and Competencies

The ideal Field Officer should possess the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Diploma in Agriculture, Development Studies, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in FSL projects, preferably with experience in integrating environment, gender, and nutrition themes.
  • Proven experience in project management, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
  • Fluency in English and local languages is required.
  • Experience working in Eastern Equatoria, Central Equatoria and Jonglei states is a plus.
  • Commitment to gender equality and social inclusion.
  • Understanding of environmental sustainability principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of nutrition-sensitive interventions and their integration into FSL programs.

Administratively, the position reports to the Project Officer
