Who we are looking for:

We are seeking to recruit a result-oriented professional to support our research field work in Somalia (quantitative and qualitative studies) thus experience working in Somalia. This is a critical role in ensuring proper planning of field activities and quality outputs to secure our competitive advantage and improve performance. The Field Officer will be responsible for supporting the Somalia field team in project planning, field budget development, field work supervision, field team training and field report review. S/he they will be in responsible of project specific field activities and quality control of data collected during fieldwork. This position will be based in Mogadishu, Somalia. Job description

The position may require occasional travel to certain field locations within Somalia. The key tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in internal data audits and quality control measures as well as ensuring field data is of high quality and meets the clients’ standards for assigned tasks.
  • Assist in conducting qualitative and quantitative interviews on need basis for evaluations (baseline, midline or end-line), Third Party Monitoring, assessments and other project related studies/surveys.
  • Support field team training and participate in the recruitment of field teams when necessary.
  • Assist in ensuring that field data collection teams are paid in a timely fashion and for the assigned projects, ensure each and every member sign-off a payment receipt form.
  • Assist the Senior Research Officer in managing field teams by following up on-going field work in different locations and providing updates.
  • Be responsible for company assets assigned to field data collection teams in a given project and ensure that a proper record is kept and all devices return upon completion of field data collection exercises.
  • Be responsible for project related field assignments including assisting in the development of field activity work plans and budgets.
  • Assist in the identification and resolving of field challenges.
  • Assist in field data quality checks and ensure field data collection protocols are followed to the latter.
  • Participate in the development of field training manuals and training PowerPoints slides.
  • Assist in conducting field data collection spot checks to enforce data quality control and/or carryout impromptu field visits where necessary to check whether teams are following data collection protocols as required.
  • Be a team player and work harmoniously with the rest of the company staff.
  • Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the supervisor or company management.

Qualifications and key requirements

  • Holder of a Master Degree OR an undergraduate degree in Business, Social Sciences, Statistics, Economics, Communications or equivalent qualifications.
  • Four (4) experience for Master holder OR Five (5) or more years of experience for Undergraduate holders in research, monitoring and evaluation, particularly in field work management in carrying out data collection, overseeing data collection and, managing of field teams in Somalia.
  • Good in report writing and/or data analysis
  • Must be a Somali national with clear knowledge of the local context and experience working in fast-paced research, monitoring and evaluation consultancy work in Somalia,
  • Strong team working qualities and interpersonal skills such as oral presentation, communication and networking skills.
  • Excellent skills and experience in managing and delivering a range of research projects at the assistant level,
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills to ensure work is effectively prioritized to meet deadlines,
  • Ability to work under own initiative with a proactive approach to issues and a problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to use MS Office and proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, emailing and internet use.
  • Good communication and command in English language.
