SUMMARY: VSE Corporation is looking for a Field Engineer to work in the GLOBAL Division of Federal Services Group, reporting primarily to the Project Manager for the Iraq Vessel Maintenance and Repair (VMR) Program team. This position is located in Umm Qasr, Iraq.

The VMR Program is in support of the Iraqi Navy (IqN) fleet consisting of the two (2) U.S. built 60-meter Offshore Support Vessels (OSV), twelve (12) U.S. built 35 meter Patrol Boats (PB), and twenty-six (26) 27-foot “Defender” Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs). The overall effort encompasses preventive maintenance or planned maintenance, emergent repairs, and platform overhauls. Additionally, this effort supports the maintenance and repair of the IqN Dredger, Syncro-lift, and Ship Repair Facility (SRF) equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of all aspects of MTU 2000 series, or similar, engine maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to download and upload EPROM system for applicable engines and testing
  • Execute full factory-standard overhauls to return the original equipment to like-new condition, delivering the same high standards of performance, service life and quality as the original new product.
  • Perform complete engine disassembly and cleaning.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of each subject engine utilizing onsite lab analysis of fluids and materials; measurement, inspection and evaluation of all parts against factory-specified tolerance and wear limits; evaluate performance of crack testing (on relevant parts); identification and execution of modernization requirements; and documentation of results and findings.
  • Rework and machine using series production processes to achieve like-new tolerance requirements.
  • Overhaul supplier components, such as crankshafts, coolers, heat exchanger inserts and couplings – conducted in partnership with OEM and/or certified, audited sub-suppliers to ensure maximum quality.
  • Initiate the assembly processes using remanufactured/rebuilt parts and components and new wear parts (gaskets, seals, bolts, screws, etc.) utilizing the most up-to-date tools, specification documents and layout drawings for series production.
  • Test run using specified, order-specific peripheral settings to replicate difficult field conditions (e.g., extreme temperatures). Utilize documentation of engine values, evaluation and provision of plausibility assessment according to dispatch documentation
  • Adhere to inspection plans developed in agreement with quality management, including documentation of key dimensions (dimensions sheets, templates, push-on dimensions) throughout the assembly process. Conduct completion and documentation of order-specific requirements. The subcontractor shall implement design and model related updates and upgrades (if applicable).
  • Prime and paint the engines as well as pack/preserve the engines utilizing commercial/seaworthy/long-term packaging rows if required.
  • Possess analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills required to manage multiple on-going projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • MTU-certification Level IV
  • Four (4) or more years of experience in MTU engine maintenance and repairs. Must be able to work in Iraq for at least one (1) year and be willing to consider staying longer, if offered.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Position is contingent
  • Position is contingent on incumbent ability to obtain and maintain an active VISA, and travel restriction lift.
