The Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement provides vulnerable people with assistance and adheres to the seven Fundamental Principles of the Movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality. The German Red Cross assists in disaster response, rehabilitation and capacity building projects on appeals of their sister organisations within the Movement.

Field Coordinator (m/f/d), Morocco

GRC is seeking a Field Coordinator (m/f/d) to be based in Chichaoua, Morocco. Together with the Moroccan Red Crescent Society (MRCS), GRC successfully implements programmes since 2012. The support to MRCS has been scaled-up after the devastating earthquake on September 8th, 2023. The relief and recovery operation in response to the earthquake is implemented with funding from the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO), GRC own funds and third-party funding. The Field Coordinator will be responsible to support the implementation and coordination of the earthquake response in the province of Chichaoua in close coordination with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). While the current relief activities address the emergency needs of the affected population, the recovery phase will focus on community-based interventions in the fields of DRR, health and WASH. Additionally, this programme is complemented with efforts of capacity strengthening measures for MRCS.

Based in Chichaoua, the Field Coordinator is supported by an experienced international team of delegates and local staff under the line-management of the Head of Office. The duty station is greenlighted for accompanied posting.

Starting date: 01.02.2024

Duration: 12 months with possible extension

Location: Chichaoua, with frequent travel to other regions of Morocco

Main duties & responsibilities:

The Field Coordinator effectively contributes to the assistance of vulnerable people through a coordinated Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement approach, ensuring that all activities are implemented following the accepted humanitarian standards. The Field Coordinator provides coordination of the daily operations implementation, including supervision of programs as well as security, HR and Finances. In addition, the Field Coordinator promotes capacity building of MRCS and actively pursues community participation in the implementation of activities.

  • Support MRCS and GRC in project planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting.
  • Provide assistance to MRCS staff and volunteers to effectively implement project activities in accordance with humanitarian standards.
  • Together with the MRCS field team, provide regular monitoring reports and project updates.
  • Represent GRC in planning and coordination meetings and actively contribute to networking with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support MRCS in the coordination and cooperation with Movement partners, relevant stakeholders at different levels, and community groups.
  • Support local branches of MRCS in their ability to carry out current operations, and sustainable long-term organizational development.
  • Assess socio-political, humanitarian and security situations.
  • Ensure staff safety and security by adhering to and communicating policies and regulations to all project staff.

Required Competencies & Skills:

  • University degree or advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • At least three years’ experience in the field of emergency relief, humanitarian assistance, and/or recovery, with particular focus on community-based integrated programming.
  • Proven experience in program management including planning, activity tracking, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Proven Experience in MEAL and reporting, including beneficiary communication, complaint mechanisms, beneficiary selection.
  • Proven experience working with national and local partner organizations. Previous experience in working with the Red Cross / Red Crescent is a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills as well as intercultural sensitivity, including managing expectations of different stakeholders in a balanced and diplomatic manner.
  • Experience in managing donor funded projects (preferably GFFO, BMZ, ECHO).
  • Experience working in the MENA region will be a strong asset.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member with high cultural sensitivity, underpinned by substantial working experience in foreign contexts.
  • Flexibility and adaptation to change, proven ability to work and live in a dynamic and challenging environment.
  • Oral and written fluency in English and French is a requirement. Knowledge of Arabic or German is an asset.
  • Ability and agreement to adhere to the Red Cross Red Crescent Fundamental Principles.
  • Ability to complete a thorough medical screening process ‘working abroad under specific climate and health conditions’.
  • Valid Driving Licence.

We offer you a compensation package according to the collective employment agreement of the GRC, an expatriation allowance during your mission as well as an allowance to cover your accommodation. In addition to a full insurance package GRC is covering a home flight within a 12-months period of assignment. Medical check-ups and Psychosocial Support Service are included in your assignment.
