Lifting Hands International is looking for a Female Friendly Space Manager to start in August 2024 in Greece with a minimum six-month commitment.
About Us
Lifting Hands International operates a community center in Serres, a small city about an hour from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. We work with a population of 1000+ refugees & asylum seekers at the local camps, providing regular aid distributions and a range of psychosocial support programs.
Role Profile
The Female Friendly Space (FFS) is a safe space for women and girls (>13yo), where we provide psychosocial support activities and capacity building. The space is tailored for community engagement and self-expression with the aim of empowering community members while promoting education and awareness around gender issues and women’s rights.
Main Responsibilities
- Managing the day-to-day running of the space;
- Continued developing of the FFS program, including monitoring and evaluation of vision and goals;
- Training new FFS volunteers and conducting bi-weekly check-ins with them;
- Leading weekly FFS meetings, sourcing resources for each week’s activities;
- Managing a team of international and community volunteers;
- Facilitating focus groups to gather feedback and suggestions from community members, strengthening accountability mechanisms;
- Implementing strategies to engage community members in the space in accordance with their needs and PSS guidelines; developing ways to empower community members and giving them the opportunity to acquire new skills (workshops, informative sessions, etc.)
- Managing collaborations with partner organizations and FFS visitors;
- Reporting safeguarding concerns;
- Assisting with other duties when required
Essential Criteria
Due to the nature of the work and in order to create a safe space for the community members, only applications from women are considered
- Quick thinker, proactive, motivated, open-minded, easily adaptable to a fast-paced working environment, positive and adaptable to work with limited shared language with program participants
- Previous experience working with refugees, forcibly displaced persons, or at-risk youth
- Previous experience in development, gender studies, women’s spaces (WGSS), or similar
- Enthusiasm for working with women and women’s rights
- Previous experience in people management
- Professional attitude, able to remain calm under pressure
- Able to work well in a large, multicultural team
- Minimum six-month commitment
- Fluent English speaker
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Greek / Arabic / Kurmanji / Farsi / French
- International Drivers License
- Understanding of the implementation of Psycho-Social-Support programs
- Potential to stay on the team for 6-12 months
