HALO

The HALO Trust is the world’s largest and oldest international humanitarian mine action non-government organisation (NGO). Our mission is to lead the effort to save lives and restore livelihoods for those affected by conflict. HALO is known for its work to clear landmines but is very much involved in the disposal of other explosive hazards such as bombs, rockets, missiles, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). HALO was established in Afghanistan in 1988 and now employs almost 10,000 staff in 26 countries and territories.

HALO has been operating in Ukraine since 2016 but is adjusting its operations due to the current and ongoing conflict. It is widely reported that significant amounts and different types of explosive ordnance have been used since 24 February 2022. While this explosive ordnance has caused widespread damage and destruction, we anticipate that large volumes of these items remain unexploded and a significant threat to people and infrastructure. HALO is actively sharing EORE messaging at the moment, primarily through social media but also through direct messaging on the ground. Our latest social media campaign has been seen over 50 million times in Ukraine.
